Dr. Howard enjoys providing personalized obstetric care and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, including Robotic surgery. She is committed to forming strong relationships with her patients and believes that the doctor-patient relationship is a central component of health and healing.
Dr. Howard is a native of California who received her Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Davis and her medical degree from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Ob/Gyn residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She also served as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow and dedicated many years to developing programs for underrepresented communities while receiving a Master’s of Public Health and Communication degree from Tuft’s University in Boston.
In her spare time, Dr. Howard loves hiking with her family, playing the piano, practicing martial arts and reading. Dr. Howard speaks Spanish and Farsi.

I have had some unbelievably bad experiences with OB/GYNs in the past. So much so that I've avoided getting the crucial care that every woman needs, because the idea of enduring more humiliation or outright dismissal of concerns gave me deep anxiety. So when I say "OMG I LOVE THIS DOCTOR" it comes from almost 30 years of never having gotten to utter that about a caregiver in this speciality.
Dr. Afsari-Howard actually talked with me *and listened!!!!* That seems so rare in caregivers these days. Instead of hearing my self diagnosis and throwing drugs at me, we discussed other things going on with me which might contribute to my concerns and I even went away with some discussions to have with my primary care giver.
If you had told me, before I saw this incredible professional, that I'd be thrilled to make a return appointment I'd have laughed myself into the loony bin. But I'm actually looking forward to my next visit. Dr. Afsari-Howard is amazing!

I found her on ZocDoc and I thought she was great. My last doctor didn't want to give me an IUD due to my young age, but Dr. Afsari found an option that worked out great for me. She's very nice and made me feel very comfortable both times I visited her office. I plan on seeing her more.

Nice clean office. Chatted with some other pregnant moms while I waited. All the staff I interacted with were very kind and helpful. Dr. Mary Afsari-Howard seemed genuinely interested in what was happening with me, even asking about how my husband and I met! I am sure she has many patients so it was nice to have such heartfelt personal attention!

Everything was great, EXCEPT, while she did inform me, she still treated me knowing my insurance would most likely NOT cover my appointment. And it didn't. I feel it would have been more professional knowing my reason for being there was not an emergency, to have me make sure I was coved before treating me.
