Meagan Hargreaves, PMHNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
6112 St Giles St, Raleigh, NC
My name is Meagan Hargreaves, PMHNP-BC, and I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 15 years of experience in the mental health field. I completed my education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, behavioral health urgent care, and inpatient psychiatry. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals facing a wide range of psychiatric challenges, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Much of my experience has involved supporting people through periods of instability, helping them better understand their symptoms, and developing treatment plans that support long-term recovery and wellness. I was drawn to behavioral health because of a desire to help people navigate some of life's most difficult seasons. I believe mental health deserves the same attention, compassion, and care as physical health, and I value the opportunity to work alongside patients as they move toward greater stability and wellbeing. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, going on walks, traveling, and reading. Those experiences help me stay grounded and remind me of the importance of balance, connection, and taking care of ourselves. I approach psychiatric care as a collaborative process, combining evidence-based treatment with a genuine commitment to understanding each person's unique experiences, goals, and strengths.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me tends to feel supportive, collaborative, and judgment-free. I believe one of the most important parts of treatment is building a strong therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences, asking questions, and being actively involved in decisions about your care. I take time to understand not only the symptoms you're experiencing, but also how those symptoms are affecting your relationships, work, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. Whether you're struggling with mood symptoms, anxiety, addiction, or another mental health concern, I want you to feel heard and understood. Many of the people I work with are looking for greater stability, clarity, and confidence in managing their mental health. My role is to provide guidance, education, and evidence-based treatment while helping you build a plan that aligns with your goals and values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first appointment is focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to treatment. We'll discuss your current concerns, psychiatric history, previous treatment experiences, medical history, and what you're hoping to achieve. I spend time learning what has worked for you in the past, what hasn't, and what factors may be influencing how you're feeling today. From there, we work together to develop an individualized treatment plan. This may include medication management, education about your diagnosis, and discussion of other supports that may be helpful as part of your overall care. Follow-up appointments allow us to monitor progress, address challenges, and make adjustments as needed. My goal is to ensure treatment remains effective, practical, and responsive to your changing needs over time while helping you feel supported throughout the process.
