Dr. Michael Choi, D.O., is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in the Lap-Band weight-loss surgery. After graduating from Tulane University, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his surgical residency training at Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY, where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. Dr. Choi continued his subspecialty Fellowship education at University of California Davis where he received specialized training in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery. After completing his extensive training, he joined a private practice surgical group for a year at Dobb Ferry Hospital in Dobbs Ferry, NY, where her performed both Lap-Band and gastric bypass procedures.
Dr. Choi was born and raised in South Florida and decided to come back help the patients in his community. His interest in weight loss started during his minimally invasive surgery fellowship, where he saw first hand how weight-loss surgery could dramatically affect the health and life of his patients. In the 6 years, since Dr. Choi has started his practice in the S. Florida area, he has performed over 2000 successful Lap-Band procedures. He currently performs the most Lap-Band procedures in all of South Florida. He is the only surgeon in South Florida who is able to perform the Lap-Band surgery in an office-based setting. With offices located in Ft. Lauderdale and Miramar, he has patients that come to see him not only from within Florida, but also from out of state and country as well.
Dr. Choi is credentialed at Memorial Hospital Miramar and Memorial Hospital West. He also serves as a Clinical Instructor of Surgery for Nova Southeastern Medical School. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Dr. Choi is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Florida, New York and California.
