Marriage and Family Therapist

Therapy can provide you with a window to perceive and pursue what you want to become. It also helps you find and address what has been holding you back from your goals. This is a highly personal process. The therapist is your guide, witness, and advocate in this journey. When the external world seems chaotic, inward balance and perspective are even more important. Nancy V. Portrait There are many forms of therapy to aid you in reaching your desired destination. I am an integrative therapist, meaning each individual and challenge is matched to a method that best suits you. Integrative therapy involves integrating the personality: taking disowned, unaware, or unresolved aspects of the self and making them part of your cohesive personality. It helps reduce defense mechanisms that inhibit spontaneity and limit flexibility in problem solving, health maintenance, and relating to others. It supports re-engaging the world with full contact. It is the process of making whole again. Through integration, people can face each moment openly—with renewed perspective and a fresh approach for the ride ahead. I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, active in several Bay Area chapters. I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University and my Bachelor’s from Mills College at Northeastern University. The licensing process includes ongoing education about new developments in methods and practice to help clients heal. I am a lifelong learner, avid reader, and active member of a large and thriving family and community. I come to this work from a background in consulting—which I realized often involved individual counseling. I have worked in for-profit companies in management positions as well as small business.
