“Dr. Shah has been incredibly helpful and supportive. I went to him initially for one back problem, and after suffering an injury I developed a much more serious problem. He always goes over my imaging with me, explains what is happening and why, and reviews my treatment options in detail. I also want to mention that one of the nurse practitioners at his practice (Kerry) is amazing. She answers messages sent in the patient portal as promptly as she can and she always calls me when prescriptions are sent or other updates arise. I trust Dr. Shah and he always puts me at ease. I highly recommend him to anyone needing a physician to evaluate their back.”

About Dr. Neel Shah

**Out-of-Network Practice** Neel P. Shah, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with specialized training in minimally invasive and microscopic spine surgery. He focuses on adult degenerative spine issues, motion preservation, and outpatient spine surgery. Dr. Shah has specialty training and experience with artificial disc replacement surgery. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate Medical School, completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and pursued a fellowship in Spine Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. Committed to using the latest, most proven techniques and the least invasive treatment options possible, Dr. Shah’s philosophy can be summed up in three words: “Less is more.” Although qualified to perform the most complex spine surgeries, his goal is to use the least-invasive treatment possible for maximum benefit. Taking an individualized approach, Dr. Shah guides patients to make the best decisions for their unique circumstances, aiming to relieve pain, restore function, and return them to an optimum quality of life. His approach to patient care is to treat everyone like a member of his own family. “My goal is to guide patients toward making the best decision possible for their particular conditions and life situations, using the least-invasive treatment options as medically appropriate,” says Dr. Shah. During each patient visit, he prioritizes spending time to ensure patients understand and participate in decisions about their next steps. He strives to be a guide throughout their care journey. Dr. Shah finds the complexities of spine surgery most rewarding. The four tenets he aims to achieve in spinal surgery include decompression of nerves and the spinal cord, stabilizing instability, correcting deformity, and motion preservation. There are many ways to achieve these goals, each with pros and cons. Dr. Shah tailors the best option for each individual patient in his care.

Dr. Shah was fab with his demeanor towards approaching my problem and explaining every little doubt I had. This was my first visit and I hope his suggestion works for me!

Consultation itself was fine but they were extremely slow in sending the prescription. I had to follow up multiple times on the phone without getting a response and ultimately had to physically go back to the clinic in person (despite being in excruciating pain) to ask that they send the Rx. Also the prescription omitted critical information on which medicines should not be taken together. I emailed them via the patient portal to clarify but again it took them forever to respond by which time I had already finished the medicine. It seems no one really monitors the emails properly so there doesn’t seem to be a reliable way of contacting the doctor unlike other providers like NYU Langone and Mount Sinai where I’ve never had so many issues. Don’t think I’ll be using anyone at Summit health again after this experience if I can help it.

Everybody was really friendly and seemed to genuinely care about treating me. They listened to my concerns and answered my questions and the assistant comforted me by reassuring me we’d figure out what was wrong.

Great! Highly recommend

Doctor Shah was concerned about my problem and told me the various steps in which I had to take to further the process of operating if needed. He also put in for medication for me to take for the pain. I appreciate how he and his colleagues treated me with care and I highly recommend him for anyone that needs to be seen by an orthopedic specialist. God is good. Amen????
