Getting to know Dr. Nivea Calico
My goal is to help you feel better and get you back to living a meaningful and joy-filled life.
I am an adult psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist, now offering Spravato (Esketamine) and racemic ketamine intranasal/IV treatments, as well as genetic testing with Genesight.
Initial evaluation rate: $600 for 60 minutes
Medication management rate: $350 for 30 minutes
Medication management + 45 minutes psychotherapy: $475
Intranasal ketamine therapy: $550 for 2 hours of medical treatment
I’m a dedicated and caring physician who believes my role is not only that of a healer but also a teacher. Successful treatment fundamentally relies on our joining together in pursuit of your health and wellness.
In my practice, I provide psychopharmacology and guidance on lifestyle modifications that can significantly improve your well-being. I believe in comprehensive and compassionate care—an approach that considers all your needs, including psychiatric, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects.
Being a medical doctor specialized in psychiatry allows me to diagnose possible medical causes of your psychiatric symptoms. This ensures you are accurately diagnosed and treated, providing comprehensive care.
Overall, I see my role as fostering hope and insight, decreasing suffering, and helping you achieve more freedom through personal growth and expression.
To help overcome social determinants of mental health and limited access to care in NY/NJ, I offer sliding scale fees on a case-by-case basis for those in need. This ensures no one seeking help is turned away due to cost.
I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine. I completed my residency in general surgery at New York Medical College and psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
What should a new client know about working with you?
When meeting with me you should feel seen, heard and most importantly understood. I will partner with you on this journey of improved health, setting a clear path with goals to achieve along the way. I'm available to you during scheduled appointments and via phone or email when not together.
My therapy style is Interpersonal and Psychodynamic. I focus on defining and breaking patterns of behavior and thought as well as attachment styles that no longer serve you.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
In my practice, I provide psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and guidance on lifestyle modifications that can significantly improve your life & well-being. I believe in comprehensive & compassionate care.
When meeting for the first time we will spend 1 hour exploring your history from childhood to the present. We will discuss patterns of behavior or thought processes, past traumas, and your strengths. I will analyze your current situation, discuss any diagnosis that may be at play, and create an individualized treatment plan for you which may include psychotherapy, medication management, natural supplements, lifestyle changes that include a mindfulness practice, and improved nutrition and exercise regimens.
At the end of our session, you should feel seen, heard, and understood. You should have a clear understanding of your diagnosis if you were given one, and you should know how to go about beginning your treatment and what results are expected to come from that.
We remain in close contact via text, email, and scheduled appointments. Throughout the entire process, you will be partnered and guided by me in this experience and we will meet the goals we set out to achieve for you.

When seeing an Out-of-Network provider, like myself, you will use your insurance benefits to reimburse the up-front payments you made to see me. After each session, you will be given a Superbill to be submitted to your insurance plan. Generally, insurance plans reimburse 60-80% of your out-of-pocket costs. Choosing to go with an Out-of-Network provider allows you the freedom to choose any physician you wish to see and allows you the flexibility of being seen today rather than waiting to see a doctor in-network who has a rather long waiting list.
Lastly. as a step to overcome the many social detriments of mental health and the limited access to care in NY/NJ, I do offer sliding scale fees on a case-by-case basis for those in need of treatment. Thus ensuring that no one who wants help has to be turned away due to what might be a prohibitive cost.
