What should a new client know about working with you?

My Approach: As your Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), my primary goal is to provide you with a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and understood. I believe that mental health care is a collaborative process, and I’m here to work with you, not just for you. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to better understand what’s going on and how we can address your concerns in a way that works best for you. Therapy Style: My style is patient-centered and holistic, meaning I take into account not only your mental health symptoms but also your physical health, lifestyle, and personal history. I emphasize empathy, respect, and open communication in every session. I understand that everyone’s journey is unique, so I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, preferences, and goals. I practice a blend of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and medication management, depending on what’s most appropriate for your situation. While medication can be a valuable tool, I also believe in the power of therapy, lifestyle changes, and coping strategies to help you manage your mental health. We’ll discuss all available options and make decisions together about your treatment plan. Setting Expectations: Our work together will be a partnership. I will listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and provide guidance, but I also encourage you to take an active role in your care. It’s important that you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feedback with me, as this will help us create a treatment plan that truly reflects your needs and goals. What Sessions Look Like: In our sessions, you can expect a blend of conversation, assessment, and practical strategies. We might explore past experiences that are affecting your present, identify patterns in your thinking and behavior, and develop tools to help you cope with stress, anxiety, or other challenges. If medication is part of your treatment plan, we’ll discuss it openly.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial Consultation: In our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other. I’ll ask you about your medical history, including any previous mental health treatment, medications you’ve taken, and any current symptoms or concerns. We’ll also discuss your personal history, such as your family background, work or school life, and relationships, to help me understand the broader context of your mental health. This is a comprehensive assessment that helps me to form an initial diagnosis and create a tailored treatment plan. It’s important that you feel comfortable sharing as much as you can, but we will move at a pace that feels right for you. Follow-Up Sessions: In follow-up appointments, we’ll continue to build on the information gathered in the initial consultation. These sessions will focus on monitoring your progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed, and addressing any new symptoms or concerns. Depending on your treatment plan, we may discuss medication options, their potential benefits, and any side effects you might be experiencing. I’ll work closely with you to ensure that your treatment is effective and that you feel supported throughout the process. Diagnostic Process: The diagnostic process is thorough and collaborative. I use a combination of clinical interviews, standardized assessment tools, and, when necessary, lab tests or referrals to other specialists to reach an accurate diagnosis. My goal is to ensure that we have a clear understanding of your mental health condition so that we can develop the most effective treatment plan for you. This process is ongoing, as mental health conditions can evolve over time, and our approach may need to adapt accordingly. Therapeutic Approach: While my primary role involves diagnosing and managing mental health conditions, I incorporate elements of talk therapy into our sessions. I believe in a holistic approach to care, which means that I focus not just on your symptoms but also on the underlying factors
