About Dr. Oliver Tannous
Oliver Tannous is a diligent and considerate orthopedic surgeon serving the community of Washington, DC. Dr. Tannous attended the University of Maryland, where he received his medical degree, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. He further continued his studies and completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of California, San Diego. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University.
Dr. Tannous is a part of MWHC Orthopaedic. Dr. Tannous welcomes patients who speak English, Spanish, and French. His awareness of these different languages makes him accessible to patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

I appreciated his honest straightforward explanation regarding my condition. His using my mri on the screen to help me see and understand exactly what has been causing my problems was extremely helpful. It’s unfortunate that it took me getting a third opinion, from Dr Tannous, six months after my mri before I could get concise answers but I am grateful that I was referred to him in the end. I was extremely disappointed with the care I’d gotten from the previous 2 doctors but Dr Tannous will definitely be my orthopedic surgeon regarding my back. I was extremely pleased despite the prognosis requiring a surgery.

Dr. Tannous, without question, is the best in his field. He listened to my concerns and quickly diagnosed the root cause of my symptoms. This was further supported by x-rays taken after our initial discussion. Dr. Tannous explained these x-rays to me clearly, in laymen's terms, and his diagnosis was spot on. Dr. Tannous suggested the next steps to take and quickly set-up my next appointment. Beyond his expertise, Dr. Tannous was kind, friendly and calmly addressed all my concerns. This was my first appointment with Dr. Tannous, and it couldn't have gone better. He is an exceptional physician.

I had not planned to see Dr. Tannous until next year, 2026, but I had new symptoms that did not appear until recently. After my x-ray, he told me that nothing had changed since my last visit. He did recommend, however, that I start a physical therapy program to strengthen my core muscles--exercises I always avoided. I signed up immediately after I got home. My motto for 2025 is KEEP MOVING. Thank you, Dr. Tannous.

Dr Tannous was very concerned with my problem. He explained my situation in great deal. He gave a clear and precise plan of action. He listened all concerns and didn’t make me feel like I was bothering him. Very good communication. I felt so much better about my situation knowing we had a positive plan in effect. Excellent orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Tannous was very thorough and addressed my concerns. He reassured me that my spine had stabilized and adjusted my medication. Additionally, he stressed the importance of regular exercise to strengthen my core muscles and improve my balance. His staff was efficient, friendly and polite.
