Dr. Hammerschlag knows the field of ear problems incredibly well. He clearly has a lot of experience and learning, which is important in a doctor. After a very thorough exam, he diagnosed and provided a clear explanation. He had good equipment and good support. And a very good manner. I think he knows what he is doing.
Great and thorough service. They don't just rush you out to the get to their next appointment. Great location, great service, and knowledgeable staff.

Good visit. First time seeing a doctor with this specialty, so didn't know what to expect. Dr. Hammerschlag was helpful.

Excellent experience! Was able to see me same day, short wait time, professional and friendly staff, wonderful doctor!

A very knowledgeable and concerned physician. Haven't seen him for about 25 years and it was like yesterday.
Verified patient
Very insensitive and I waited 2 hours to be asked rudely if I was interested in hearing.
He is a very good physician. The staff is very nice. Wish the wait was a bit shorter.
does not seem that patient oriented. a bit dry but seems efficient. Laurent

Beautiful office, professional staff & Dr.'s are on point, very knowledgeable. If you have any issues with the ear, etc. I would recommend this office highly.

Staff was far more interested in discussing their lunch than explaining why, in an empty office, the doctor was still more than 30 minutes late to see me for my appointment. Doctor was brusque and at times rude, and seemed generally aggravated by my presence.
Verified patient
I felt like I was burdening him just being there, as if I was some how an inconvenience. He was very short with me. Easily the worst bedside manner I've experienced from any type of physician.
He took the time to read my file before coming in and was very good in asking me questions regarding my hearing issues. He then performed a detailed exam. I then went right into the hearing test area which was extremely thorough. He diagnosed my condition and recommended treatment. This was a huge load off my mind and my time was very efficiently used.
Verified patient
Office felt a little bit dated, but overall not bad. Didn't love that the audiologist was sick and coughing like crazy before/after seeing me.
I liked the doctor very much. He was very attentive. He definitely has had a long time practice and is very knowledgable in his field very.

He couldn't even feign interest in my case. Literally asked me why I came to him and not a general internist. Was not interested in knowing my case history, even though it is a highly complicated one (i.e., two separate sinus surgeries and a history of recurring and chronic sinusitis vs. coming in for a run-of-the-mill single sinus infection). He did not use any of the technology which have been standard at my visits to all other ENTs.
I am very satisfied with my visit. He was thorough and knowledgeable and the wait was not too long. He has excellent bedside manner and his staff was very professional and efficient. Dr. Hammerschlag answered what I needed to know so I can decide on what I should do as the next step.
Verified patient
Very poor communicator during and after the visit (for example, did not even reach out to me within a week of a major test's results becoming available). Also overcharged me based on the insurance agreement and was not willing to correct it, requiring a complex and lengthy process with the insurance company to resolve.
It was a very good visit and can recommend the

Dr. H did not have the warmest bedside manner.
Dr. Hammerschlag himself is an amazing doctor. Staff is very helpful and attentive. His diagnosis were spot on and after the treatment I feel great. No pain, no discomfort full recovery. Thank you Dr. Hammerschlag!

His receptionist lacks social skills. She does her job but not politely or with grace: you pick up on an obnoxious rude vibe in the office: she is the first impression of his practice: she could be more friendly or use basic polite language but clearly she's not a people person or empathetic: witnessed her being difficult with a patient who was in pain. The doctor is stiff in personality, decent man, monotonous and gets the job done. Just don't expect someone who is personal and very informative: the doctor is socially awkward. However, he's not rude or mean, just cold and unengaged. If it's convenient go...if you want to feel comfortable and have a very positive experience then never mind, pass this practice.
The examination was thorough with several different areas examined. Hearing test was included, also with several components; all done expertly with the audiologist explaining each segment. At the end of the visit I was given a copy of my hearing evaluation.

To be honest, it was pretty bad. The staff was generally apathetic. I had to call to confirm my appointment (they never accepted it online). I filled out and submitted the "check in" forms on ZocDoc using the iPhone app, but the receptionist tried to have me complete all the forms again on paper once I arrived because "they never come through on ZocDoc when you submit via phone". Since that seemed strange to me, I asked her to check again. Sure enough, all the completed forms came through (i.e., she just didn't care to check in the first place or how inconvenient if would have been to re-complete everything). The doctor could very well be completely competent (I don't have the education to judge), but he seems quite elderly, and the instruments in his office look as if they went out of date in the 1980s (and the lack of cleanliness didn't help).
While Dr. Hammerschlag was a fine physician, my experience at his office was dismal. First, I received a call that my appointment needed to be rescheduled. When I arrived (on time) for my rescheduled appointment, I had to wait over 30 minutes to see the doctor. I was seen, and then made to wait another 35 minutes to see the audiologist. I then waited another 15 minutes to see Dr. Hammerschlag again for a final conversation. When I mentioned to the receptionist that I had been waiting for so long and that perhaps they shouldn't have offered me the rescheduled time slot, she accused me of being late to the office, that she was trying to accommodate me by offering me that time slot, and that there was nothing wrong with their scheduling system. She was extraordinarily rude and never apologized for my wait, but instead made it seem like it was my fault. I will not be returning to this doctor.

A MEAN MONEY HUNGRY MAN WHO HAS NO SHRED OF COMPASSION OR BEDSIDE MANNER. PLEASE AVOID HIS UNNECCESSARY EXAMS BY FINDING SOMEONE ELSE. ALL HIS REVIEWS ARE BIAS. PLEASE TRUST ME.

I have used Dr. Hammerschlag for a decade. He is very interested in giving you the best care possible. He will give you a very thorough examination and do his best to cure any issues you may have.

life saver old school doc who knows his stuff

The reason I had made this appointment was totally misconstrued by ZocDoc. Zocdoc had me fill out this whole form to give info to the doctor and this whole exercise was totally useless. I had seen this doctor a number of years ago and just wanted a hearing evaluation to compare with my last visit. This is what I entered on this ZocDoc form. When I arrived at the doctor's office, he thought I was a new patient and wanted to give me an extensive ear exam as he assumed I had some problem other than wanting an updated hearing evaluation, which I had to abort as that was not at all what I had indicated on the zocdoc form.

Some confusion in the office on whether I was established as a patient. Lots of forms to fill out, after I'd already filled out a long survey online. However, he is an excellent doctor, so if you need the best, it's worth a little aggravation to see him. He has excellent diagnostic skills and I would recommend him to anyone. The audiologist in his office, Janie Barnett, is also amazing. She knows which hearing aid to recommend and is a very nice person. I always go away from this office feeling I couldn't find a better doctor/audiologist anywhere. Very happy with this highly skilled team.
Extremely helpful and knowlegable. He took the time to explain eveything to me and didn't make me feel bad for asking a lot of questions.
While he seemed knowledgable and well meaning I wouldn't know if he is competent because he never ended up treating me. I waited forever, finally saw him, had my medical history taken and then was told that I would have to return on another day to do a diagnostic procedure that could have been done that day had I been seen closer to my appointment time. I never went back.
Dr Hammerschlag is old school. If you need to see someone immediately, he'd be great, solid, reassuring, and fit you right in. Told me a funny story and put me at ease. I also appreciated that he didn't rush to throw antibiotics at something. The wait was pretty hard core, but I've found the wait is almost always horrific at ENT offices, so I wasn't too surprised.
Dr. Hammerschlag identified a serious issue in my ear after I came in for an Ear Infection in the Spring of 2012. After resolving the issue he recommended a tympanoplasty to prevent a more severe recurrence. I went to Dr. Eric E. Smouha who confirmed the recommendation and I had the Surgery in December, 2012. Today, a year later, my hearing is restored to normal levels in both ears and I am able to perform strenuous exercises (ran 2 marathons this year) without noticeable irritation in my eardrum. Previously activities such as these caused uncomfortable ruptures in my ear drum. I am very satisfied with the work that Dr. Hammerschlag has done for me.

The entire appointment took me 2 HOURS from start to finish. The doctor was "30 minutes behind schedule" according to the receptionist. I wasn't even put in a room until 45 minutes into my appointment. Thank goodness I did not have any pressing matters to attend to, because I was stuck in his office from 3-5pm. The staff seemed just as annoyed with the doctor as his patients. I would see a different doctor in the future.

excellent doctor
I was impressed. I can tell that he is a person that notices tiny little details about you which contribute to his ability to accurately diagnose your problem. Excellence is attentiveness to detail and he has that. He is also a nice person.

Dr. Hammerschlag, unlike other specialists I have seen for similar problems, seems genuinely interested and determined in helping me identify the cause of my symptoms,
