Peter W. Callander, M.D. specializes in hip and knee replacements with an emphasis in minimally invasive techniques. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical degree from Saint Louis University where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha society. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of California, Davis and his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at the Hospital For Special Surgery, Cornell University. Dr. Callander has extensive clinical training and experience in all aspects of surgical and non-surgical management of arthritis of the hip and knee. During his fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Callander trained in all the latest techniques of hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, joint reconstruction, and revision hip and knee replacements. He is a hip resurfacing specialist who performs this revolutionary surgery for the management of hip arthritis in the young and active patient. He has numerous publications and has made presentations on his area of specialty both regionally and nationally at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is active in clinical research with both implant designs and bearing surfaces. Dr. Callander currently serves as an Orthopaedic consultant for the San Francisco Ballet.
