A distinguished and well-published surgeon, he has extensive expertise in the surgical treatment of cancer and benign disorders of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and surgical quality improvement. He studied medicine at the University of Basel School of Medicine Switzerland, earned his medical degree from Switzerland's University of Bern School of Medicine and a Master of Health Administration from the Mailman School of Public Health – Columbia University. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and clinical fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Saldinger is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of University Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Society of Surgical Chairs amongst others. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
