Pouya Shafipour, M.D., is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Obesity medicine. He is passionate about using nutrition and lifestyle transformation in treating chronic diseases. He started his journey with residency training in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. However, during his training, he was devastated by the obesity epidemic and its consequences including diabetes, heart disease, chronic pain and significant reduction in the quality of life. Therefore, he changed the direction of his training to primary care as well as getting to the root cause of the obesity epidemic and its management by additional training in obesity and bariatric medicine as well as clinical research at Kaiser Permanente. Since completing his residency training, Dr. Shafipour has spent the past 8 years managing chronic diseases through lifestyle transformation, nutrition and exercise. He is constantly educating himself by keeping up with the most up-to-date journals and attending conferences. He has personally followed every diet that he prescribes and coaches patients through every step of the way. Dr. Shafipour spends his weekends with his weekends with his wife, children and dog hiking the local trails, going to basketball and soccer games and playing music. He has led many local exercise groups for patients in the local communities including Walk with a Doc Los Angeles. He has also been a regular guest lecturer in Santa Monica in the topic of obesity and pre-diabetes.
