About Dr. Samuel K. Van De Velde
Dr. Samuel Van de Velde, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, is an orthopedic surgeon with NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn. He treats all aspects of the lower limb, including pediatric, adolescent, and young adult hip preservation, and sports pathology of the hip and knee. Dr. Van de Velde has a particular focus on specialized surgical interventions for hip and knee disorders, including: periacetabular Ganz osteotomies, femoral osteotomies, surgical hip dislocation and femoral capital realignment, hip arthroscopy, and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, multi-ligament reconstruction, and meniscal surgery.
After medical school in Louvain, Belgium, Dr. Van de Velde joined the Bioengineering Laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where his NIH-funded research was commemorated with a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. While in Boston, Dr. Van de Velde was an Instructor in orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School and completed his master's degree at the Harvard School of Public Health.
After completing his orthopedic surgical training at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, Dr. Van de Velde visited the Royal Children's Hospital in Australia, and completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He then completed an additional year of specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of hip pathology in children and young adults in Perth, Australia.
Dr. Van de Velde has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and has presented his research at both national and international medical conferences. He is a reviewer for several medical journals and sits on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Great physician and PA! They were kind, proactive, and spent enough time to thoroughly answer all my questions. The only warning is that it took me 25-30 min to check in at the door, go through security, and check in at the ortho department. Plan to get there early! Though everyone was very kind and my tardiness was not an issue.

We love going to Dr. Van Velde for our son. We have been going to him for the past 3+years. Our son is an athlete and so he has been seen by Dr. Van Velde for broken fingers, sprains, minor hip and knee issues. Dr. Van Velde is a great listener and very thorough in his examination. He takes time to go over the patient xrays and explain the injury or issue at hand in layman's terms. He provides sensible solutions. If you need a pediatric orthopedic doctor, we highly recommend Dr. Van Velde.

THE BEST! The x-ray team was amazing and friendly and immediately took me in for imaging, and even added additional imaging right then and there when I provided them with some additional information. The doctor was also great, very warm and kind and explained everything clearly and simply. He offered a treatment plan that will hopefully allow me to avoid surgery, and also explained what the procedure/recovery time would be if I do end up needing surgery. 10/10

Dr. Van de Velde was very patient and clear in explaining to me what he saw in my x-rays and MRI, and honest and level headed about not recommending surgery at this time. It's so rare to have a doctor that you can trust and who will take the time to really explain to you what's going on, and I'm so glad that I had this consultation with Dr. Van de Velde instead of someone else!
