About Dr. Shida Saam
Shida Saam, D.O., received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, and completed her residency in Family Practice at the University of California, Irvine. She is board certified in Family Practice and Geriatrics. Dr. Saam chose to focus on family practice and preventive medicine because she enjoys helping her patients maintain optimum health through both traditional and alternative medicine. She takes a holistic approach to medicine by incorporating integrative therapies, as appropriate to the patient's individual needs.
"It is important to develop a trusting relationship with patients and encourage them to participate in the treatment and decision-making process," says Dr. Saam. "Forming a partnership with my patients enables us to work together to improve their health and well-being."
Dr. Saam is pleased to be part of the team of family practice physicians at Hoag. "I chose to practice at Hoag because of the excellent reputation of the hospital," she says. "I continue to be impressed by the superb customer service from the staff at Hoag, which makes the patient's experience so much more comfortable, and that is very important to me."

I just moved from NY and found Dr. Saam’s practice on ZocDoc. The office staff were friendly, and personally helped with my paperwork with hardly a wait time! The nurse who took my vitals asked the necessary questions in the manner of an easy conversation.
Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Upson is a breath of fresh air; smart, takes the time to talk and delivers the medical care needed. Most times we are one of many patients, I was made to feel I was the only one. Bravo

I couldn’t get my lab results because I was switching companies and my previous insurance lapsed before my new coverage began. The receptionist told me they can only release lab results if a doctor reviews them with you over the phone. And, unless I pay out of pocket for the call, which may or may not be about abnormal results, they won’t send them to me. This means I’m stuck waiting indefinitely until I have new insurance before I can get my results. On top of that, the nurse who drew my blood did a terrible job. He inserted the needle so poorly that blood spilled everywhere when he pulled it out. It was the first time I’ve ever had to have blood drawn from both arms, and the soreness in my arms was unlike anything I’ve experienced from a blood test before.

I haven’t been to the doctors in a few years and was nervous to go. However I’m really glad I went!! The office was clean, the staff were friendly and I felt like I mattered! I’m excited to continue taking care of my health with this doctors office! I highly recommend!
