Smita Carroll, MD, MBA, MPH is an OBGYN and Complex Family Planning subspecialist. Dr. Carroll earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry and French from Union College followed by her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Clarkson University Capital Region Campus. She then earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College. Upon completion of her formal education, Dr. Carroll completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UMass Chan Medical School, where she served as Education Chief Resident. She then completed a fellowship in Complex Family Planning at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, where she also earned her Master of Public Health in Health Systems, Services, and Policy.
Recognizing that each patient is an expert in their own life, Dr. Carroll aims to provide compassionate clinical care that meets each patient where they are at, centering their own family planning and pregnancy goals. In addition to providing comprehensive OBGYN care, she has expertise in procedural abortion, medication abortion, early pregnancy loss management, and contraception provision for patients with complex medical conditions.
Dr. Carroll is a strong advocate for the provision of patient centered, antiracist, and equitable reproductive healthcare. She is passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in the provision of health care and in medical education. Her interests include reproductive justice advocacy and health policy, health equity for pregnancy capable people, and using an intersectionality framework to mitigate abortion stigma.

While in the waiting room, one of the front desk staff said to her colleague that a patient was messaging the office about her contractions being 20 mins apart and the other staff member said “is she stupid?”, I suppose remarking that the patient should have known to go to the hospital rather than message the office. Overhearing that did not make me feel great if that’s how they talk about patients.
When I was brought back for vitals I waited over an hour to have my exam. No one seemed to have read my paperwork and the intern who came to speak to me first was condescending in her response when I told her I was sexually active and didn’t want birth control.. I’m married and doing IVF, both facts were in the paperwork they made me fill out. When the doctor finally came in she apologized for the delay and attempted small talk but at that point I just wanted the appointment to be over. The intern, not the doctor, did my exam. Will be seeking future treatment elsewhere.

Dr. Carroll is genuinely such a great doctor. I booked an appt with her because of the positive reviews left on her profile, and now I am one of them! I went to her for my first Pap smear and she was kind, calming, and a great listener. If you are having any issues with your health, don't hesitate to tell her about it. The nurse and medical student she works with are great too.
The office is also in a nice part of the city and is relatively easy to get to, which is an added bonus.

Dr. Smita Carroll is truly wonderful. She is compassionate, attentive, and highly communicative. The practice was WAY more trauma-informed than the last practice I went to - I was always asked before anything was done to me or around me, everything was explained thoroughly, and left feeling taken care of and listened to. I was having an especially bad day and had a little cry while in the room with Dr. Carroll and she gave me the time and space to do so. I highly recommend her. The office itself was fine - it felt like a typical NYC office. There was a little bit of a wait. But that was all worth it to be seen by Dr. Carroll.

Run, do not walk to see Dr Carroll! She is absolutely a gem of a wonderful doctor and highly recommend her to get your women’s health needs taken care of. My last doctor whom I loved stopped taking my insurance so I needed to find a new one who was in network and I’m SO glad I found her!
Trauma informed, really patient centered, empowering for choice and consent, super helpful for providing all the medicine, tests and resources I needed for a follow up mammogram, yearly pap, pelvic floor therapy and thorough testing before providing options for HRT for perimenopause.
My body is going through crazy changes in midlife and I’m so glad I found someone to help set me up for success in this transition and helping me take care of regular testing in a kind, compassionate and super helpful manner. I have a lot of medical trauma so it’s terrifying to see new doctors and she put me at ease. I knew it would not be another traumatic experience. I was listened to, heard and helped.

Would 100% rec. Friendly staff, Dr. Carroll saw me immediately and was very attentive and listened while I explained by symptoms and seemed genuinely interested in trying to help. Definitely a 180 experience when compared to my last gyno who was more interested in dismissing me and getting me out the door. I'm definitely going back here next time.
