In 1987 Dr. Stuart Friedman opened Heights Vision Center on 127 Montague Street. Eighteen years later he moved the practice to it's current location at 132 Montague Street. Previous to this practice, Dr. Friedman had a contact lens practice devoted to "difficult to fit" patients which he opened in 1983. Patients with kerataconus, aphakia, corneal scarring and pediatric cases were referred to him at this practice.
Dr. Friedman is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton with a degree in Art and Psychology. He attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston and graduated in 1981 with a Doctorate of Optometry. During his 3rd year there he spent a semester in Jerusalem, Israel doing a contact lens rotation at Hadassah Hospital.
In addition to general optometry, he specializes in contact lens fittings. All cosmetic lenses are fitted, as well as therapeutic lenses for medical conditions such as keratoconus, orthokeratology and post LASIK lenses. Custom designed lenses are available when needed, depending on diagnosis. Children's contact lens fittings are available for special vision needs. LASIK consultations and co-management services are also provided.

I have been going to Dr. Friedman for over 10 years now. He is always patient, thorough, and explains everything while he's examining you. I highly recommend him. His office staff, particularly those that assist with the frames are really helpful at helping you select frames that fit your face.

As soon as he saw my insurance type the smile left his face. The entire visit took less than 30 minutes. Maybe he is not a big talker but it was weird just sitting in his office in silence while he typed information into the computer. I planned to pay out of pocket for contact lenses (first timer) but his demeanor made me changed my mind. He was not rude or disrespectful but he was not friendly either.

I've been going to Dr. Friedman for decades. He's great with contact lenses, an expert for people with eyes difficult to fit. Now that I'm older, and very nearsighted, I trust Dr. Friedman to do a thorough eye exam. I got not great news today, higher pressure in the eye (glaucoma test) but I'm thankful it was Dr. Friedman who did the test. I trust his results and he will give me the correct info on what I can do, no nonsense or dubious nonmedical stuff. He is sympathetic but low key, just right for when you are worried about your vision but not wanting to freak out. I did order new eyeglasses, and they are great, progressive super thin lenses in a beautiful frame, so am hoping to enjoy corrected vision for a little longer yet.

I was hesitant to go to the eye doctor again after being swindled at an optometrist's office in the East Village, but 1) my friend raved about Dr. Friedman and 2) I needed a new contact lens Rx.
Dr. Friedman and his office staff were incredible. I even told him that I was looking to switch my contacts to something cheaper (preferably, much cheaper), and he recommended a brand that cost much less per box, and never made me feel about it, either. He was also super knowledgeable about the insurance process. His staff was quick and courteous, and the office building is clean. I'd highly recommend going here!
