Getting to know Dr. Teofilo Matos Santana
Dr. Matos Santana has a direct but compassionate style. He believes in a personalized approach to patient care. Applies evidence based medicine with a goal to improve quality of life and productivity.
I trained at Yale University. Board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. I treat general psychiatric disorders as well as more complex disorders including addictions and psychosomatic medicine (the interface between medical problems and psychiatric conditions). I have 14 years in the practice of psychiatry.
I have experience in University Mental Health as I managed psychiatric emergencies at Yale-New Haven Hospital in coordination with Yale Health (student health clinic).
I enjoy my work and I learn everyday from my patients experiences. I believe patients need to be heard. I rely on my psychotherapy skills to understand the patient distress and use the neurobiological understanding of how medications work. It is my responsibility to offer you the best treatment options. Im proud to see empowered patients involved in their process of change.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Motivational Interviewing. A portion of my time is dedicated to teaching, academia and scholarly activities. I have executive/management training at the Yale School of Management. I am convinced that these experiences come across on how I provide patient care.

What should a new client know about working with you?
I value transparency and your privacy. With the appropriate sensitivity and compassion I can share my findings with the goal of growing your skillset and improve decision-making. I respect the trust provided in me and it is part of my job to protect your medical information.
I believe in finding the right medication, if it is indicated. Trying the lowest effective dose of a medication and protecting you - as best I can- from side effects like somnolence and weight gain.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
You can visit me at my office in Coconut Grove, Miami, I have a small practice, very personalized appraoch. I can see you virtually with a Hipaa protected zoom link if this is your preference. I will be your point of contact and I will be available as best I can through our work together.
