He has given me more details about my eye than my previous opthomologist and his staff is friendly. In and out!
He was fine, annual eye prescription. Worked quickly. Explained when I asked questions. Suggested annual opth visit for 2017. Didn't push upsell of glasses. My two beefs about the visit: long wait even tho I was the first appointment at 830am; and, I had to fill out tons of papers even tho ZocDoc said it would send all paperwork.
Very professional doctor. His office members are also very nice and helpful.
Fantastic physician. I'll be back for future appointments.
Very pleased with both Doctor and Associates.
Quick consultation without any explanation about the treatment he's giving you. Doctor Chang was not nice and helpful but people in his team were nice and gave good explanation about the insurance reimbursement.
I went to see Dr. Chang a few times. The office was clean, the staff were friendly if busy, and the wait time was short. For me, however, Dr. Chang was lacking in bedside manner. He never introduced himself or greeted me in any way. He seemed confident in his exam, but didn't explain anything to me. I had to ask him many questions to figure out what he was prescribing for me, why, and how to use it. He generously provided me with samples of the medication, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, his bedside manner is such that my visits were unpleasant and I will be looking for another ophthalmologist.
Great eye doctor; felt as if he listened to my concerns and performed a thorough examination.
I had three exams, saw the doctor, and got a prescription for glasses plus the first time paper work -- all done in 45 minutes.
I've recommended Dr. Chang several times, and all were quite pleased. He is simply great! Very knowledgeable, great demeanor, I just trust him with my eyes! Staff is also great and accomodating.. highly recommended!
They don't make you wait and they are very professional. Office is clean. They get you in and out quickly. Dr. Chang is really good about explaining everything. They are very thorough.
The doctor was good but spent less than 10 mins on me. I feel like he glanced at my eye and prescribed me meds and sent me away. Didn't spend any time asking: how are you feeling, or what may have caused it. He gave his diagnosis and moved along.
It was simple and efficient. Everyone was nice in helping me.
Was seen promptly by the Doctor and felt that my needs were accurately addressed. The office staff, however, is less than cordial. Poor interaction.
Doctor Chang was great - knowledgeable and thorough. However, his office didn't receive my online forms, and I was surprised by my final bill. This was likely my fault thought, as I should have spoken up about my treatment options. Recommended!!!
Very good doctor. To the point and very thorough. he is not interested in small talk but is very confident in his diagnosis (which is what matters) and is very thorough.
Staff is helpful and doc is funny
They made me wait 45minutes (and redo all the material I filled out online) for less than 10 minutes with the doctor who didn't even take the time to listen to some of my symptoms, just told me in too young for glasses and all my headaches were result of overuse on computer screen. He then proceeded to tell me I had an astigmatism in both eyes but barely explained what that meant...
Dr. Chang is a reassuring professional who provides you with the information you need and is generally willing to go a bit more in depth if you ask him. Thankfully, I haven't had any serious eye issues, but that means I can't comment much on Dr. Chang beyond simple check ups. My only issue with his practice is that, because Dr. Chang is the only doctor in the office, you might find yourself waiting half an hour to be seen, even though he has a very good support staff.
Wait time was great, only about 25 minutes...but maybe that had something to do with me being rushed out of the office so quickly. The doctor spent no more than 5 minutes with me. I had a lot of questions that went unanswered and I feel like he didn't spend enough time to be sure of his diagnosis of my eye issue. He seemed annoyed at any questions I did ask and overall he was just kind of cold, uncaring and all about business. If you have a simple issue and are okay with being seen as just another number then Dr. Chang may be okay for you.
Waited one hour for a 10 minute appointment. Absolutely ridiculous.
I've only had a good experience and have gone yearly for the last three years. They always nice and efficient, which I appreciate.
they were disorganized in the office and a 45 minute wait even though i booked an early AM appt.
A very intelligent and reassuring professional who answered ally questions. The support staff were efficient and friendly. I'm looking forward to future encounters.
i enjoyed his approach and the state of art equipment
I have been seeing Dr. Chang for about 10 years, he is courteous, patient, answers all my questions and very professional. I highly recommend him!
He has manners and kind
Dr. Chang was pleasant, quick and professional. All around good experience.
I went to see Dr. Chang because I had an eye irritation in my left eye. After he saw me for this, it was clearly understood that we were done. He went outside and came back and asked me if I was getting the routine annual eye exam, I said no. He also knew I was visiting NYC, I see my regular eye doctor for the routine. I had to see an Ophthalmologist because I had a very specific issue with a specific eye. Then he goes outside and comes back and prescribes 3 other tests. I realized that these tests were completely unnecessary after we were done because, the tests were done on both eyes and it had no bearing on the issue of my left eye. I asked him why we did those tests, he said to get a baseline, and I reiterated that we just discussed that I was visiting NYC. I asked him for the results of those tests, he was hesitant to give them to me, until I was rather forceful. I wouldn't NEVER go to him or recommend him.
Dr. Chang is quick and straightforward with little pleasantries, which I like and prefer. This was my second time to his office and there was barely any wait this time.
Despite receiving many confirmations from Zoc Doc, I was told that they did not have my appointment on file. After waiting for 45 minutes they were still trying to confirm with my insurance, but were calling the wrong company. It was incredibly annoying and I would not recommend this place to any new patients.
CHARGED ME LATE FEES. BUT I PAID UPFRONT EVERYTIME! THEIR PHONE NUMBER DIDNT WORK so I couldn't ask them about it. NO WAY TO CONTACT THEM VIA PHONE. WTF!!! STUPID STUPID STUPID!! ALSO TERRIBLE SERVICE!!
I have dry eyes . Very helpful
Very disappointed first they didn't have my name confirmed and second they said they don't accept tricare, this is awful I went all the way just for that and they dont accept it.very disappointed.
They didn't take my insurance to get glasses. They wanted to charge me just to get a prescription to get glasses. They shouldn't take any part of medicaid if your not going to do a full job.
I have already recommended him. Very clean and organized office, was treated with courtesy and taken care of in a timely and efficient manner.
Excellent! Initially went to Dr. Chang based on location. I have stuck with him based on great experience. Happy I found his office and looking forward to staying with his practice for years to come. Staff are always very helpful, too!
Dr Chang was fine, but the head receptionist was awful. She was screaming at the other employees the entire time I was waiting. She said sarcastically to one of them "can't you read" and yelled at another to get off the phone when he was scheduling an appt with a patient. It was extremely uncomfortable to sit in the waiting room and listen to this, and she was very unprofessional. I will not be returning back to this doctor.
Staff was kind and helpful. Dr. Chang was professional as well as funny. This not only made short appointment comfortable, but fun as well. He took the time to make sure the prescription was right. I highly recommend him!
The visit with Dr. Chang was amazing and he was very thorough. His staff was friendly and professional. The tech assisted me with the entire process of selecting a frame for my new glasses. I had no idea I needed progressive eyeglasses and I'm so relieved that I now could drive safely with my new pair of glasses. I am grateful to Dr. Chang and recommend everyone take time out of their busy schedules to come see this Ophthamalogist to get a thorough medical check up. You never know what you might be overlooking and it is better to be safe than sorry.
I went to Dr. Chang for a routine vision test and new glasses prescription. I paid extra for a retinal scan which his staff notified me of beforehand in one of several forms. Dr. Chang saw me immediately, explained my vision needs, and offered some opinions on proper care and glasses. At the end, it was clear that his staff also wanted to try to sell me new frames, but I declined and only ordered new lenses. I felt that the visit went a bit fast, but perhaps that was all that's needed (all my eye exams tend to be quick).
Excellent and Knowledgeable Dr. and Staff. Great service!
He seemed to think it very important that I understood the difference between an Opthamologist and an Optometrist. An Opthamologist, you see, has been to medical school. And Optometrist has not. Dr. Chang related in no uncertain terms that he was a proud Opthamologist, not to be confused with your garden variety Optometrist. Other than this charming quirk, the doctor was effective and totally professional.
It was very pleasant.
Did not show much concern nor empathy. Barely described his diagnosis. Felt like he was doing me a HUGE favor seeing me. Will not be returning.
This was my first time to Dr. Thomas Chang's office. It is a very small office. When I arrived there were already (5) people waiting to either be seen by the doctor or have some tests done. After filling out paperwork, it was (30) minutes or so until I was seen by the doctor. Once in his office, we discussed my previous condition, my current prescription, and the difference between being an Optomologist and someone who fills prescriptions are Lens Crafters. He fit me for the right prescription and I'm excited for my new glasses. I then waited another (30) or so minutes in order to have my tests done. Overall, my experience with Dr. Chang was wonderful, however, the wait time was very exhausting. I thought I would be able to get in and get out, but that was not the case.
very professional and office runs efficiently. Highly recommend.
The visit was awesome and a learning experience. Doctor Chang made me aware of matters that are vital to my illness that my previous doctors did not explain to me. He was able to make a thorough check up about the main concerns that i had, and leave me worries free.
Very professional and competent specialist.
Very professional and competent specialist.
I am very pleased with my recent visit o Dr. Chang. He carefully did all bunch of tests and explain me everything that good and bad with my eyes. Recommend me vitamins to take, teach me how to clean my eyes etc. He took his time, he answer all my questions and was extremely polite. His stuff is highly professional and quick. A+ doctor. Highly recommend.
I thought my doctor was super thorough and nice. She was patient and answered all of my questions and concerns. I was so pleased I asked for a follow up appointment. Highly recommended
Professional and very competent specialist.
This is my second time here. My wait was to long. Then I found out that I have to go somewhere else to get glasses. Cause they don't take my insurance. That's bad.
I have never experienced a visit to an eye doctor where I wasn't sure when I might be seen or what was happening throughout the visit. The doctor made certain assumptions so quickly that I didn't feel like I could completely trust what he was telling me. So, I'm still looking for a good eye doctor in NYC... Most patients seemed to be of Asian descent, so perhaps if you speak a different language, ect. you might have a better experience. They seemed quite professional and the office was beautiful, but I did not feel like I received the level of service I've come to expect/appreciate in this field.
In his teams defense, I was 15min late and they still let us keep an appointment.
After a little more than an hour from my scheduled appointment, I was able to see the doctor. He was serving two or three other patients in different rooms and continuously flitted between their rooms and mine. In the little segments of time I spent with him he was very much the bully like another reviews stated. He seemed to have contempt for my follow up questions and answered them with more than subtle condescension. I hope that I caught him on a bad day, but I'll never visit again to find out.
Dr Chang was great! He usually doesn't work with kids but he was great with my son. He was patient and kind to my busy 4 year old.
I went in for a vision check and complaining of some eye pain and was told that I could NOT have both taken care of in the same appointment. How is that possible or even moderately good care?
I didn't wait long he was very professional he was very helpful and I highly recommend that people go.and the staff was very professional.
Professional demeanor from the doctor and the staff. Organized and polite.
Long wait time and impersonal interaction with the doctor = probably won't come back.
Doctor and part of the staff were rude. Doctor did not take his time to go over procedures with me; he was probably with me around 5 to 10 minutes. Would definitely NOT recommend the Doctor. Try at your own risk.
Good doctor. I would recommend him.
Perhaps the doctor was fine as a practitioner. However, the office is run by an incredibly loud, rude, shrew of a woman who barked orders and criticisms at the staff like "you're in my way so get out of my way and move over." and "none of you know what you are doing" The folks in the waiting room were squirming. I can't even imagine what the staff felt like. When I brought this to the doctor's attention, he was defensive. ("she's run the office for 25 years and the whole office staff just quit and everyone is new. They need to be spoken to that way, believe me." and finally, "I apologize but that's the way she is to everyone" In my view, there is no excuse for such behavior. The fact that a business person has endorsed that for 25 years says volumes. In contrast, the new staff was largely delightful. Go figure. No wonder the previous staff jumped ship. Last visit for me!
very professional and efficient. well run office with nice staff.
While the exam was thorough and I believe I got a good prescription, I felt almost bullied the entire time. I do not feel like Dr. Chang listened carefully to my concerns. He was unjustifiably argumentative when I shared my own personal experiences, products, and doctors I've used in the past. I would not recommend his practice.
A woman at the desk kept yelling at the staff.
All efficient but office is little small.
He was quick & efficient. I've had glasses for 3+ years that weren't helping despite visits (elsewhere) to adjust the prescription. This was my first visit with him and he told me that I don't need glasses; the problem was that my eyes were dry and needed drops applied regularly. I tried this and found it to be true! I am very pleased that he didn't just follow what others have told me to sell me more glasses. Great!
Great doctor, could smile a bit but I think it was busy and he was preoccupied. One of the few opthalmologists who could really help me with my nearsightedness. But wait time was a bit long....appointment was at 10 am and didn't go in until 10 minutes before 11.
Once I saw Dr Chang I found him very helpful, but getting in to see him can be quite difficult. His matter-of-factness was quite refreshing though.
Dr. Chang was friendly and informative. He was patient and explained everything very clearly. Dr. Chang also made a concerted effort to make sure I was at ease. Highly recommended.
He is straight forward and isn't afraid to tell you exactly what he feels about certain products and procedures. I appreciated his honesty.
nice guy. seemed a bit preoccupied but i think it was just super busy that day. I will go back to get my prescription and check-ups in the future.
Office was dirty, bathroom was filthy, diagnostic machines were not wiped off between patients. Not a sanitary office.
This office was great! They knew my sons situation right away and treated him well. I highly recommend Dr. Chang's office!
The doctor himself was just fine. However, one of his assistants who was performing a diagnostic test on me accidentally poked me in the eye with the machine and didn't bother to apologize. Don't know if she even bothered to clean it afterwards, but I am glad I did not walk out with an eye infection. Because of that incident, I probably wouldn't refer anyone to his office. Too bad because Dr. Chang was very nice.
Dr. Thomas Chang was great--he seemed to really know what he was doing, very efficient but still thorough. They've also got two offices--one in Chinatown (which I visited) and one in the East Village.
Very direct, gets right to the point. Diagnosed my problem right away.
Great Service Was Provided..Would Highly Recommend
Front desk ladies could have been more helpful, clear and descriptive when discussing my visit. Poor communication at times. Had to push them to re-review my insurance for proper coverage. Disliked waiting; have a full-time job and the visit was longer than necessary. Doctor himself was fine, efficient.
Visit was fine, but he seemed to be overbooked. I didn't see him until 45 minutes after my scheduled time and the waiting room didn't have enough room for everyone waiting for the single doctor. He is an MD, not an optometrist, so I'd definitely go see him again for an appointment.
Intelligent, personable, and thorough. His office is cramped but he keeps patients moving efficiently and briskly without being brusque.
To the point and Professional. Nice staff that explained benefits.
It is in my opinion that Dr. Chang is a highly skilled specialist. I believe that he just needs a little assistance being that he is the only specialist of that kind in that area.
As soon as I entered the exam room,Dr. Chang drilled me on whether I knew the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist, which I found to be extremely condescending. He wanted to make it clear that I was seeing a real medical doctor, and thought for some reason that I would assume he was only an optometrist. His attitude towards me was very rude, and I have never been spoken to by a doctor like that before. I would have rather gone to an optometrist without an ego! He didn't ask me how I was or any common niceties when I entered the room. After lecturing me about the difference between himself ( a real medical doctor), and an optometrist he then asked if my five year old niece had to be in the exam room with me. It was a very uncomfortable experience given how our interaction began. I also feel like my exam was rushed and was scared to ask the doctor questions because he seemed very impatient. The office staff, on the other hand, is very sweet and helpful.
Dr. Chang was thorough and very knowledgeable and his staff were friendly and helpful.
Dr. Chang is perfectly pleasant and thorough, but his receptionists are not. After waiting 45 minutes for my 9 a.m. appointment, I politely inquired with the receptionist, who promptly barked at me "you're next!" No "sorry, we're running behind" or anything that indicated she recognized making a patient wait for nearly an hour for a scheduled appointment was not acceptable. That's really all it would have taken - a simple "sorry - this is not how we like to do things."
Very good, thorough, knowledgeable eye doctor.
He answered all my questions and was very thorough.
