Spine Specialist

Timothy Shelton, M.D., is a Board Eligible Interventional Physiatrist and Sports Medicine specialist. I have a CASH ONLY regenerative medicine clinic. I DO NOT TAKE INSURANCE! I perform regenerative medicine orthopedic procedures such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which allows people to heal from within. PRP injections treat tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis-related pain, and joint injuries. What’s in a PRP Shot? Plasma is the liquid part of your blood, mostly water and protein, that carries red and white blood cells and platelets. Platelets help blood clot and are full of growth factors that aid healing. To collect plasma, I draw blood and use a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. Then I numb the treatment area and inject the plasma with a needle—no scalpel or cutting involved. Sometimes, I use fluoroscope and/or ultrasound during injections to target the right area. PRP injections usually take about 30 minutes. Once platelets are in the treated area, they release growth factors that help cells repair and renew, triggering the body’s healing process. Do Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections Work? More studies are needed to determine all conditions PRP can treat. Research shows it speeds healing after injury or surgery for certain tendons, ligaments, and joints. Some studies also show PRP reduces pain and improves mobility for rotator cuff injuries. It can take several weeks for PRP injections to start working; full effects may take up to 6 months. I earned my medical degree from St. Mary's School of Medicine (Cook Islands) and completed my residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Emory University.
