Getting to know Tonisha Melvin

I live in Bethesda, MD with my husband of 26+ years, our 17-year-old son, and our new addition to the family, Pluto, a Boston Terrier. We also have a 26-year-old who is a mechanical engineer. I am a wife, mother, advanced practice registered nurse, writer, and lover of dark chocolate! I enjoy spending time with my family, snowboarding, reading, being a fitness coach, gardening, cleaning, volunteering, writing/blogging, going to the mountains, and meeting new people. I have over 16 years of nursing experience. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Mercer University and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi multidisciplinary collegiate honor society in 2017. I also hold a Master?s in Adult Health Nursing from Ball State University, a Bachelor?s degree from Northwestern State University, and a Post-Master?s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. I am certified as an adult nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse by the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. I also have extensive medical-surgical, telemetry, spinal cord injury, peri-operative, and ICU experience. In 2019, 2020, and 2022, I was named one of the numerous African American Leaders in Healthcare by Becker?s Hospital Review. I am a contributing author of *The Charge Nurse Leader Program Builder: A Competency-Based Approach for Developing Frontline Leaders*, a comprehensive curriculum and roadmap for developing nurse leaders and ensuring charge nurses are trained, mentored, and supported in their roles, and a columnist for Phi Kappa Phi?s *The Forum*. I am currently the President and Co-CEO of DMV Medical Group, LLC in Kensington, MD, where we provide a variety of healthcare services. Additionally, we care for our nation?s veterans by partnering with different companies.
