Run, do not walk, to see Dr. Perlow. He's THAT amazing. After speaking with this man I felt like I'd had a therapy session, been to a spiritual event, had my faith in humanity restored and become a wiser person. The memory of our meeting affected the rest of my day, to the point where I still feel restored as I sit here 8 hours later. I want to hang out with this man. He clearly knows his medical stuff, but his face should also be in the dictionary next to the term "bedside manner." He spent time getting to know me not just as a patient, but also as a person. Among his questions were the extent to which I like my job, whether I have pets, and the meaning of the charm on my necklace. It was as if time stopped in his office--he devoted his attention to me at a level almost never seen in medicine these days. I felt fully comfortable being brutally honest with him about my (gross) symptoms AND putting on the requisite paper gown to be examined by this stranger...and that's because of our conversation in his office earlier. I did not expect my symptoms to be taken seriously, but I feel very validated by his response to them. He ordered two affordable, non-invasive tests that will hopefully diagnose my problem, bypassing the need for a way more expensive and invasive test that I think many doctors would've ordered right off the bat. With Dr. Perlow I feel like I'm in the best possible hands, both medically and ethically. I only wish he were a primary care doctor and not a gastroenterologist, because I want to see him more often. What a gem. P.S. - He has a killer sense of humor.

Brooklyn born Dr.William Perlow is a board certified gastroenterologist for over 30 years, and is senior teaching attending at the Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center. He has performed over sixteen thousand colonoscopies and upper endoscopies. He specializes in intestinal bleeding, cancer detection and irritable bowel syndrome; including constipation and unexplained abdominal pain. Dr.Perlow has been a scientific co chair of the Ileitis & Colitis Foundation of New York, and has both a national and international following of patients.
In a wide ranging career, Dr.Perlow served 2 years active duty as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He has been a technical advisor to United Artists Studios. In 2008 he was selected by the President of the American Gastroenterological Association to serve as the only non - academic clinician on the organization's nominating committee for their next president and other important posts

Things with Dr. Perlow started off well, but as many doctors do he made a decision on diagnosis and treatment before fully listening to me or checking me out, and didn't treat my problem. My second visit he was referencing the wrong chart through half of my appt (had another patient's chart who is 40 years older than I am!) and scheduled a procedure that I later learned was completely unnecessary and I am unsure as to why it was ever scheduled. Overall I was just frustrated with Dr. Perlow as a physician, and with the amount I paid for just a visit, and the number of procedures he scheduled that didn't help and some that seemed completely unnecessary, and all added up!

Dr. Perlow is highly skilled, patient, and friendly. He understood my concerns and worked with me to resolve them. He gave me the referrals and advice I needed. I never felt like my symptoms were trivial (even though in the grand scheme of GI issues, they probably are). He asked great questions and really showed an interest in my health. I would highly recommend him!
I also highly recommend you show up 10 minutes early to get your check in procedures out of the way and not show up exactly on time as I did. I'm pretty sure I was 10 to 15 mins late for my face to face consultation, but he was very kind and compassionate and never made me feel rushed.

Dr. Perlow was very knowledgable and made me feel quite comfortable. I was amazed at how efficient he is - when he determined I needed a ctscan to diagnose my ailment he picked up the phone and got me an immediate appointment at the near by radiology center. His receptionist even called my insurance company to make sure I was covered. This was the best service I've ever received from a doctor! Dr. Perlow is worth the small wait.

My mother had medical emergency. Dr. Perlow arranged to have imaging done right away, confirmed his initial diagnosis, and got her to a surgeon ASAP. Basically saved her life. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Perlow is a wonderful doctor! He is knowledgeable and informative- his staff is excellent. I've had several colonoscopies and endoscopies. His concern and expertise makes what could be an unpleasant experience much more bearable.
