The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology published research on the modifiable risk factors for ectopic pregnancy. It is a condition where the fetus implants outside the uterus's prime cavity, resulting in extreme cases of pregnancy mortality. This 2022 study shows that many risk factors are associated with ectopic pregnancy, while tobacco smoking was the predominant one. Women who smoked had almost 2.02 times higher odds of ectopic pregnancy than non-smokers.


According to a health needs and assessment report by the University of Florida Health, maternal, fetal, and infant health complications are a pressing health issue for Jacksonville, Duval County, compared to the state or national numbers.
