Amy is wise, insightful, and caring. When I was interviewing therapists a few years ago, I was looking for someone who would have a conversation with me, not someone who would stare at me and nod. My father had just died, so I committed to staying with my mother, who has dementia, for the 3+ months that her assisted living building confined everyone to their apartments; meanwhile, my husband was extremely ill and alone in NY with COVID. Everyone has COVID stories, but this trauma sent me looking for a therapist when I returned to NY. Amy has been my ideal. She has helped me in so many ways. I never feel I am being analyzed, I feel as though I am talking to someone who truly wants to help me through difficult times by offering thoughtful, relevant suggestions. Amy also has gotten to know me through my relationships with family, friends, and pets (current and past). Amy has made such a positive difference in my life. I cannot recommend her more highly.

Trust, warmth, professionalism and even a sense of humor are what you will find in one of my therapy sessions. My goal is to help you find balance and serenity in this quick paced world. Empathy, compassion and non-judgmental listening skills are what I use to help you grow. As Carl Rogers says best “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
My specialty is treating people with drug or alcohol addictions. I see people from all over New York state and surrounding areas who are wondering if they may have a problem with substance use disorder, and co-occurring disorders. Addiction can affect the whole family, not only parents but also spouses and adult children. I can help with the guilt and shame which might otherwise tear loved ones apart.
I launched the AOD (Alcohol and Other Drug) Clinic at Pace University to deal with students struggling with alcohol and drug issues. As an adjunct professor at Pace University I have taught “Psychology of Cultural Diversity” “Psychology of Women and Group Therapy, just to name a few.
I believe in a warm, compassionate and professional approach to counseling where client and counselor are able to work together. Assessing the strengths of each individual, and helping that person achieve their life goals despite the many obstacles in their way, or the losses they may be suffering is what I strive for as a therapist.
