Psychotherapist
VA
There are many reasons someone might seek therapy—a relationship that keeps hitting the same wall, grief that hasn’t found its footing, or the quiet exhaustion of trying to hold everything together on your own. Whatever brought you here, I’m glad you’re taking this step. I’m a therapist grounded in schema therapy and trauma-informed care, which means we don’t just talk about what’s wrong—we get curious about where these patterns began and how they once protected you. From there, we build practical tools that actually fit your life, so change feels sustainable rather than forced. My work includes individual therapy, couples counseling, and adult ADHD assessment for clients who suspect their struggles with focus, follow-through, or overwhelm have a name and a path forward. I lead with empathy and respect, centering your story and your strengths rather than a diagnosis or checklist. My practice is intentionally small and welcoming to women, minorities, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and differently-abled individuals—people who haven’t always found therapy spaces that felt identity-affirming or truly heard them. You don’t have to explain yourself twice here. If you’re feeling stuck, burnt out, or ready to understand yourself more deeply, I’d be glad to be part of that next step. Reach out to schedule a consultation—let’s start with getting to know who you are and how I can help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy—or starting with a new therapist—can bring up a lot of questions, so here’s what I want you to know before we begin. You set the pace. I won’t push you to share more than you’re ready to, and there’s no “right” way to show up to a session. Some clients arrive with a clear issue to work through; others just know something feels off and want help figuring out what. Both are welcome starting points. I bring a trauma-informed, schema therapy lens to our work, which means we’ll spend time understanding not just what’s happening now, but where certain patterns or coping mechanisms first took root. This isn’t about dwelling on the past—it’s about making sense of it so you’re not stuck repeating it. You can expect honesty from me, including gentle pushback when it’s useful, alongside empathy and respect for your story and strengths. My goal isn’t to hand you a script—it’s to help you build tools that actually fit your life, so change feels sustainable rather than forced. If you’re nervous about that first session, that’s completely normal. Most of my clients are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working together typically unfolds in a few stages, though we’ll always adjust the pace to fit you. We start with a free phone consultation. This is a low-pressure chance to share a bit about what’s bringing you to therapy and ask me any questions, so we can both get a sense of fit before committing to ongoing work. Our first full session is focused on understanding your story. I’ll ask about what’s going on now, relevant history, and what you’re hoping therapy will help you with. For clients pursuing an ADHD assessment, this stage includes structured clinical interviews and standardized measures. From there, we’ll collaboratively set goals—not vague ones, but specific markers that help us both know we’re making progress. Using a schema therapy and trauma-informed approach, we’ll start identifying patterns: the coping mechanisms that once protected you but may now be holding you back. Ongoing sessions build on this foundation. We’ll work through what’s coming up in your daily life, connect it back to the patterns we’ve identified, and practice new tools together—ones designed to be intuitive enough to actually use outside our sessions, not just in theory. Along the way, I’ll periodically check in on how therapy is going for you and whether our approach still feels like the right fit. Therapy isn’t linear, and it’s normal for the focus to shift as new things come up or as you grow. For couples, sessions may also include structured exercises to practice communication patterns in real time, with reflection on how those patterns show up at home. Throughout, the pace is yours—we move as quickly or gradually as feels right.
