I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Nationally Certified Counselor. I am a trauma specialist with extensive experience in treating mental health issues including eating disorders, anxiety, mood disorder, and major depression through talk, expressive, and group therapy modalities. I have a Master’s of Science in Counseling from California State University, Northridge and a two-year, Post-Graduate Certification in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy. For the past 10 years, I have worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, intensive outpatient care, and appointment-style therapeutic settings providing high-quality, life changing therapy to my patients. I use a variety of approaches or theories in counseling, including Trauma Model Therapy, Trauma-Bound Couples Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Psychoanalysis, and Dialectics.
Much like beauty, trauma is in the eye of the beholder. Some individuals may feel traumatized by watching a scary movie or the news, while some individuals think trauma is something only soldiers incur in battle. However, the way each person experiences his or her environment is unique. Maybe you know exactly what is causing your problems, or maybe you feel sad or down and can’t pinpoint the reason why.
Trauma Informed Therapy seeks to find out why your body does what it does and helps your mind to respect your body. Trauma causes symptoms: sadness, anxiety, anger, eating disorders, mood swings, insomnia, and trouble focusing. Your body has helped you survive all these years and your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously. You can get your brain and body on the same page and stop your internal battles. Therapy isn’t magic, but when it clicks into place, it’s a really fantastic feeling.
