Getting to know Dr. Arena Mueller

Hi there! Feel free to call me Dr. Mueller or Arena! I'm a clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience helping people cope and recover from a range of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, life changes, and substance use. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University. My approach My main approach is Acceptance Commitment Therapy, or ACT (said as one word). ACT encourages us to assume an open-hearted, accepting stance toward things we cannot change and commit to a life guided by personal values. ACT uses mindful awareness, metaphors, and exercises throughout the episode of care. In fact, I use ACT in my own life to cope with inevitable challenges. My focus I love to work with men and women who face challenges with life changes, depression, and anxiety, or those who are questioning their relationship to alcohol. I have extensive experience working with Veterans and Federal Employees. My communication style Clients tell me that I am very warm and supportive. I want my clients to feel heard and understood. I routinely check in to make sure we are on the same page. When our relationship is solid, I offer new and different perspectives, emphasize important things, offer counterpoints, and, if needed, challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. My overarching goal is to help people gain clarity on what they think, how they feel, and what they want their life to be about. My journey to mental healthcare I have wanted to be a therapist for as long as I can remember. People are complex, dynamic, and so very unique in their individuality. I wanted to become an expert in human behavior to understand and help people. The greatest honor and privilege of my life has been helping people through a process of change, whereby they are able to improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.
