Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Igwe began her education at Obafemi Awolowo University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Nursing science as well as three certifications: Registered nurse, Registered midwife, and Registered public health nurse, and subsequently, BNSc in 1996. Her first nursing career was working as an industrial nurse for ExxonMobil before going in to spend the next eight years working in Medical surgical nursing, OBGYN, and labor/delivery nursing at various Nigerian hospitals.
Dr. Igwe’s passion for helping others led her to pursue a higher nursing degree at The University of Arizona, where she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2017. While practicing as a family nurse practitioner, Dr. Igwe identified several physical problems that affect the individual’s mental wellbeing. Her desire for a holistic wellbeing of the body, mind and spirit led her to pursue a certification as a psychiatric mental nurse practitioner. She is double board certified as a Family Nurse practitioner and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
Dr. Igwe brings along a wealth of knowledge, skills, and expertise from over 26 years of her nursing education and experience in various areas of nursing practice across the lifespan. She has been practicing as a family nurse practitioner over the past 4 years.
As a certified college educator and as a certified rural health nurse practitioner, Dr. Igwe integrates the science and art of nursing care to provide evidence-based patient education targeted at improving the client’s wellbeing.
As a transformational leader, Dr. Igwe received several honors and awards including the University of Arizona/World Health Organization “2020 Year of the Nurse/Midwife” award.
Dr. Igwe is a member of the sigma Theta Thou (honor’s Society), American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association (ANA), and American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
