Garret does tend to gravitate towards Humanistic/progressive theories/interventions, including narrative therapy. CBT/DBT tends to be used in the right situations, with the right client, at the right point of treatment, however, he sees these interventions as “band-aids.” With that said, he gravitates towards insight-based clinical dialogues. Moreover, he is person-centered and meets the client where they are at, embracing feedback along the journey. The therapeutic relationship is an important agent of change--a feedback loop. Garret comes from a wellness model, rather than a pathology model, seeking to understand the individual holistically. He believes that diagnoses are important to conceptualize cases, provide a basis of clinical reference, and assist in treatment avenues, however, he tries not to pathologize the clients he serves. His clinical assessment abilities and intuition is strong, as evidenced by feedback he has received from former supervisors and clinicians. Additionally, he tends to come across as a gentle, empathic, patient, and patient therapist that works hard for his clients. Garret finds that the clients he has worked with respond well to the efforts he puts into the work they’ve done. Lastly, he likes providing psychoeducation.
