Hi there, I'm Ivan!
Hello everyone! I'm Ivan Kaufman. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker helping young kids, middle-schoolers, teens and their parents navigate the daily challenges and opportunities for growth and problem-solving.
My approach
I like to use a wide range of therapeutic approaches (e.g. cognitive behavioral, arts, play therapy, talk therapy and mindfulness meditation, self-regulation). We are a collaborative team, therapist and client.
My focus
I have a clinical specialty in helping children with neurodevelopmental diagnoses (e.g. autism, ADHD, oppositional defiance, anger, OCD, anxiety.) I focus on kids and their parents in a wide range of emotional and behavioral problems, helping them gain emotional and behavioral self-control.
My communication style
In our therapy sessions, we collaborate as you teach me about your family, in a caring, empathetic exchange.
My journey to therapy
I became a psychotherapist after working as a musician and then master's music therapist with multiple handicapped children. As I became more interested in how we all think, feel, and behave, I pursued clinical social work, where I now have the privilege of helping people in a broader way.
My goals for you
Goals are long-term 'missions,' short-term objectives help us know how we're doing, therapist, mom, dad, and child. We set goals together after you've educated me about your needs.
My first session with you
In our first few sessions, I want to hear what concerns you need help with, and your goals for therapy. Together we then build a treatment plan tailored to you and your children's needs. We gather current problems, family history, and what resources have helped before.
