Getting to know Jamie Shedrofsky

Jamie (she/they) is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) and clinician based in Brooklyn. Jamie offers a holistic, strengths-based approach integrating many modalities centering the individual and their intersecting identities, grounded in mindfulness, harm reduction, and trauma-informed praxis. Jamie draws from psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, somatic mindfulness-based therapy, and behavioral therapies to meet each client’s unique needs. Jamie meets clients where they are and believes each person is the expert of their own experience and agent of their growth. Jamie helps equip clients with coping skills to make the present moment more tolerable and be active participants in their healing. She fosters a supportive therapeutic space to address life’s stressors and cultivate reflective insight and self-awareness, helping clients better regulate emotions, be present, and respond to conflict. Jamie’s goal is to offer a compassionate, collaborative, and accessible environment that makes talking about mental health feel welcoming and easy. Jamie has provided harm reduction-focused therapy at Bard High School Early College, navigating mental health crises concurrent with returning to school during the pandemic. She also leverages over 10 years of experience supporting learners as an academic tutor and executive functioning coach in NYC. Jamie specializes in mood and anxiety struggles, complex trauma histories, identity shifts and development, disordered eating and body image, substance use/abuse, self-harm and suicidality, supporting LGBTQAI+ adolescents and young adults, and those with neurodivergent minds. Jamie earned her Master’s in Social Work from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bucknell University with a degree in Classical Languages. In her spare time, Jamie enjoys reading, snowboarding, and spending time with animals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Dwellness clinician, I am committed to providing therapy in the space that is most conducive to the client’s growth and healing, whether that be in-home, via telehealth, or a site that is specific to the therapeutic needs of the client (i.e. grief walks, therapy in natural environments, exposure therapy, etc). By using the client’s environment as a medium for the healing process, we are able to more immediately implement change in the space most relevant and impactful to the client’s day-to-day life. I specialize in mood and anxiety struggles, complex trauma histories, identity shifts and development, disordered eating and body image, substance use/abuse, self-harm and suicidality, supporting LGBTQAI+ adolescents and young adults. I am especially passionate about destigmatizing mental health support and celebrating those with neurodivergent minds (i.e., attention differences (ADHD) and individuals, particularly adolescents, on the spectrum (ASD). PLEASE NOTE: In order to conduct our first session, the Clinical Intake Coordinator will contact you to schedule a intake. Please make sure to respond, schedule, and complete the intake accordingly. *Please note, our providers can only treat patients who reside in the state of NY. If you reside outside of NY state we will be unable to treat you

What is your typical process for working with clients?

**Please note that fees listed are for individual psychotherapy and that the fees for couples and family work will be higher. Dwellness provides in-home therapeutic services to individuals and families across the lifespan via home-based, in person, and teletherapy practices. Jamie pulls from psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, somatic mindfulness-based therapy, and behavioral therapies like CBT, TF-CBT and ACT, to meet the unique needs of whomever is sitting across from her, in-person or virtually. Jamie helps her clients build a supportive therapeutic space through which to address life’s stressors and cultivate reflective insight and self-awareness to better emotionally regulate, be present and respond to conflict. Jamie’s goal as a therapist is to offer a compassionate, collaborative and accessible space to help make talking about mental health feel welcoming and easy.
