My primary goal is to ensure a climate of trust and creative collaboration for a journey of discovery and healing. I take the time to know each client as well as I can, so you feel as fully seen and heard as possible. This will help you hone the tools to see and hear yourself more clearly, as well.
People seek my support for a variety of reasons, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship and work conflict, parenting, life transitions, and more. I work with adults, adolescents, and children using an integrative approach, offering a unique balance in response to the needs and preferences of each client. When working with children, I collaborate closely with their parents to ensure consistency.
I tailor my approach to each client's needs. That said, my primary areas of focus include psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, play therapy and playfulness, and mindfulness.
Knowledge gained as a landscape historian and educator has led me to decode and interpret places wherever I go, whether professionally or personally. I use many of the same skills of observation, attunement, and communication as a therapist. I feel fortunate to be able to connect these disciplines in the service of others.
Kate Papacosma, MA, LMSW, earned a Master of Social Work from Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service; a Master of Arts in Landscape and Urban History from Bard Graduate Center; and a Bachelor of Arts in History and English and American Literature from Bowdoin College.
