Getting to know Kristina Joseph

Hi there, I'm Kristina! I am Kristina Joseph, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from Valdosta State University. My main goal is to meet clients where they are in their mental health journey. This means I work with each client to better understand which modality works best for them. My approach I use different best-practice techniques to help my clients, whether it's the first session or the 100th. I adapt based on what my clients need. I work with them to decide what works best because they are the true experts of their lives; I am here to guide their better selves. My focus I work with adults and am open to working with anyone who feels a connection with my approach to therapy. My communication style I follow a loose structure in sessions to ensure each one is beneficial and aligned with my clients' goals. I often plan what we will work on based on the previous session and any homework given, but I also leave room for adjustments. I regularly check in with my clients to make sure they are ready to move forward. My journey to mental healthcare I started my career in law enforcement, working in a county jail. I noticed many incarcerated individuals hit low points and needed help more than enforcement. This inspired me to obtain my MSW. I continued working with incarcerated individuals, the unhoused, and those in psychiatric hospitals. I want to apply the techniques I've learned while working with people at their lowest points to help others avoid those situations. My first session with you In the 15-minute consultation, I like to understand what future clients hope to accomplish. This helps me see if my skill set and style will work for them. Then, during the first few sessions, I like to establish more concrete goals.
