Leo Lease, LCPC, CCATP-CA, works with children, teens, and young adults as well as with families. He has worked in out-patient private practice settings, as well as residential facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and community-based mental health. He has broad experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety, difficulties with anger, behavioral-based concerns (such as ODD or IED), attachment disruptions and family of origin trauma. Leo specializes in therapeutic work within the queer community and has worked extensively in the areas of gender identity, sexual orientation, and polyam/non-monogamous relationships.
Leo utilizes a strengths-based approach to treatment and incorporates attachment theory, feminist therapy, cognitive focused therapy, narrative therapy, and art therapy. As a trained art therapist, he uses art as an exploratory tool when it is difficult to communicate life experiences and challenges with words. He begins each therapy session with an open mind and utilizes many different techniques to find what best fits a client’s treatment. Leo’s approach is empathetic and affirming, but also direct and transparent. He believes that therapy is a space for people to have their experiences fully held and clearly heard. It is a wholly collaborative effort which fosters true and authentic communication.
Leo received his master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from Adler University in Chicago.
