Sara Doane, MA

Psychotherapist
NJ
I am a licensed associate counselor in the state of New Jersey. I completed my Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University in 2020 and have been working with clients seeking to improve their mental and emotional health since. I embrace an eclectic approach to counseling to assist my clients in utilizing their own strengths to overcome obstacles, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused approaches, meaning-making, and grief work. I have helped people experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, difficulty adjusting to life transitions, low self-esteem, and communication challenges. My person-centered approach to counseling considers both a person’s lived experiences and personal beliefs. You, the client, are the expert of your own life, and I see my role as empowering you to steer the direction of therapy. I am here to help you discover where you want to go and uncover the tools you need to get there. I believe in building a warm relationship of mutual trust where both you and I feel comfortable enough to engage deeply in the work. I became a mental health counselor after witnessing how therapy positively transformed the lives of loved ones. By nature, I have always been the person my friends turn to with their struggles, and I chose to learn how to help people professionally and safely. What I love most about being a therapist is showing people that no matter what troubles them, they are not alone, and watching them learn to manage and overcome obstacles as therapy progresses. I cherish seeing the growth my clients experience—both through life and counseling. My most profound finding in this career and in my own life is that we are always growing; there is no endpoint or moment where we say, “Ah, I know it all now!” In therapy, I hope to help you discover how you grow best and how to cope with the bumps and bruises along the way.
