"Hello, I'm Shilpa. Our lives can be challenging, and transitions occur frequently. Learning about and working on navigating/dealing with the emotions and feelings that come with past, present, and upcoming life events is part of the therapeutic process. I aim to assist clients in working through and processing their daily and long-term experiences to help them arrange, understand, and regulate how they deal with their lives in a manner that is empathetic and fruitful for them.
I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I have been working with civilian and military personnel for the last 14 years. My multicultural background, shaped by living, working, and studying abroad for many years, enriches my practice. I primarily work with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addiction, trauma concerns, PTSD, and intimate partner issues, including domestic violence interventions. For the last 6 years, I have worked with active-duty military personnel in CONUS and OCONUS locations, and with veterans, assisting individuals and their families in family advocacy, substance abuse, intimate partner violence training/support, and sexual assault training and response.
My therapeutic intervention approach is to start where you are and work cohesively to develop attainable personal goals in therapy. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other psychodynamic approaches, I help my clients make self-determined decisions on how they want to process and deal with issues in their life, or to simply understand what is happening. We work together as a cohesive unit to address outstanding problems and concerns, and I use a humanistic model to ensure you feel you have a say and control over how you want the therapeutic process to look, with advice, input, and guidance from me during our work together.
