Getting to know Dr. Stephen Schneider

I offer support, compassion, and understanding as we safely explore the fears, desires, dreams, actions, and concerns that weigh most heavily on you. Together, we become aware of how formative relationships and institutions you depended on may have overwhelmed, invalidated, or failed you-how you've over-accommodated to these relationships so that you are not fully embodying the unique needs, desires, and aspirations of your soul. Together, we encourage the emergence of the person you most long to be-someone who can seek fulfillment, joy, and passion while more fully bearing the pain and sorrows of your unique and authentic path. I work with late teens and adults in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy. My perspective is primarily Psychoanalytic, deeply Relational and Humanistic in that vein. Contemplative, Existential, and mindfulness practices are also part of my work. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, completed a Fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Medical Center, and hold a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University. I am also trained in Group Psychotherapy through the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society. As an Assistant Professor at UCLA and then Mount Sinai, I taught psychotherapy to psychiatry and psychology trainees. I have been continually challenged to ask myself what works in psychotherapy-and what does not. I am grateful for all I have learned and grown from my students and patients over nearly 30 years of practice.
