Steven was excellent! He has a wonderful personality and really made us feel at ease. Marriage counseling can be uncomfortable but Steven made us feel comfortable and once we were comfortable, we opened up and had quite a few “aha” moments. I would recommend him without any hesitation to any couple finding themselves having the same arguments. Are we completely healed? No. But, after a single session with Steven, I am able to look at my husband through a less critical lens. I am looking forward to reading the books Steven recommended and beginning our journey to true happiness.

My past therapy experience consists of 2 professionals who I saw over a combined time of approximately 3 years. Although they were good, they weren't as clear as Steven is. During my first session we went through a synopsis of my personal and professional life. As a result he was able to quickly analyze my emotional state and put together and goals.
He is a perfect example of someone who found their passion in life and made it their career.

I have been working with Cope for the past year. He has often given me insights into my life that I was unable to recognize for myself. He has helped me build strong relationships with family who once caused me pain. He helped me assess situations with a different lens that ultimately allowed me to live a happier life. Due to his excellent care, he suggested I see a psychiatrist and for the 1st time in 30 years, I was properly diagnosed and given the treatment necessary to wake up and feel like "myself" - I highly recommend Steven Cope to anyone who wants to work with someone who is caring, honest, and really can help.

My first time seeing a male therapist and I've been so pleasantly surprised with the results. I've been seeing Mr.Cope for almost three months now, and he took me in the first time despite not having confirmed the appointment. He truly does care which is so important, and I immediately felt safe to speak about what I needed to. He offers genuine care and direction and has wonderful insight. I feel challenged to think and work in a different way that is better serving me to feel more grounded while also taking risks in my life. I feel so supported and am grateful to be able to connect with someone like Mr.Cope! I would recommend him for anyone needing guidance and support, specifically when navigating relationships.

I didn't really have to wait for Steven to see me, as I was promptly seated at his office. He was attentive to my description of the situation I'm in and he offered some sound suggestions about steps to take to research more and work on myself. I liked the way in which he honed in on issues in a way that made me reflect deeply into my commitment to being and staying in a better mental space.

So this was my first time trying therapy in general. I hear that it's all about trial & error when trying to find the right therapist for you and to be honest I pretty satisfied with my experience in therapy and meeting Steven Cope, LCSW. He doesn't give you the generic, " well how did that make you feel" questions. He let me talk, or better yet VENT, and when he spoke it was to contribute to the conversation. He didn't talk AT me but instead he talked WITH me & I appreciated that. I will be going back to him.

Highly recommend! This is my third therapist, and definitely the one that has helped me the most. He is very thoughtful, helpful and insightful. Really what you need in a therapist. I am very happy with the help and guidance I have been receiving over the last year.

Mr. Cope has been awesome. We are going thru relationship counseling. We only had 1 appointment with Mr. Cope, but we both feel a little better about the situation. Even though we don't have an answer to our current situation, Mr. Cope has made the situation a little easier to deal with. We made another appointment to see him

Steven Cope creates a safe space for one to work through the webs of life. He lends and ear and offers support, yet he is not hesitate to challenge one to better him or herself. I have found my experience with Steven to be extremely helpful while going through a transitional state. Whether topics of conversation are difficult or light-hearted, Steven will reply with helpful wisdom. I'm happy to have stumbled upon him in my search for a trustworthy therapist.
On the business side of things, he's been flexible with time rearrangements for times when last-minute NYC craziness gets in the way of scheduled appointments!

Steve was very understanding and open. I did not have to wait or deal with any secretaries or the like. From the moment I walked into his office I felt welcomed. He spent almost a full hour trying to understand me and getting to know me, which is something unprecedented for many NYC doctors/therapists.
I will definitely come back and I will recommend him to anyone who needs a quality therapist.

Steven Cope is the BEST therapist I've ever seen (and I've seen some...). He is so insightful, and offers amazing observations. I have accomplished so much in 2 sessions with him, and I'm looking forward to my next appointment! He even called me a few days after my first appointment to make sure that I was doing ok, and always extends the offer for me to call him if I need to talk!

When we attended his sessions, we were engaged. We found Steven Cope after searching for a compatible therapist. His profile and first impression over our first phone call gave us a good sense that he could work with us. We came to Cope, because we were having trouble with our communication, in clarifying misunderstandings and learning to be independent of each other whilst accepting our individual differences through lessons of patience and slowing down our reactions. From our experience, Cope directly engages with his clients. He's challenged us to stop and think through even the most well established aspects of our relationship. He teaches you how to properly cope with the daily struggles your significant other. Cope is flexible with his time and is exceptional in keeping in touch.
That being said, Cope's approach is very direct and it can be intense. He won't sugar coat his advice and thoughts about any subject matter examined with his clients. That can upset some people but greatly help others. In those kind of moments, Cope was willing to listen to what worked for us especially with how he can communicate with us better without losing sight of the purpose of therapy. Cope does have a good sense of boundaries and humor, and he's expressed an open mind to particular topics. All of which may be better uncovered after multiple sessions. No therapist has a magic crystal ball, so communication is key with Cope.
He helped us with our relationship. Several months of seeing him as individuals and as a couple was time efficiently used.
Now we are getting married on March 25th, and can focus on other things-- living life much better and being happier with what we got -- each other.

Mr. Cope is true to his profession. He makes you feel welcome, and provides a non judgemental atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable in opening up to discuss sensitive issues. Mr. Cope is caring and patient. He is also honest in providing feedback and tools to help you in your daily life. I would definitely recommend him.

I have been working with Steve for a number of years to overcome my challenges with anxiety and generally work on my mental health. He has patiently worked with me to understand a number of underlying "root causes" for my troubles and given me to tools and confidence to work them through. I am significantly more comfortable in stressful environments and able to step back and keep the big picture in mind. Thank you Steven !

When I first began looking for a therapist, Steve was recommended by some friends who were in the field and also working as psychotherapist. Some saw Steve as clients so their recommendations came as a high endorsements. Right on my first visit a quick and easy rapport developed. I found him very easy to talk with. A trust was established and grew and strengthen with time. Steve approach has been hands on in a sense. Its not sessions where the therapist sits and says nothing. Its a lively
dialogue filled with advice, suggestions, instruction, debate, insight, education, understand, humor and compassion. I began to feel understood after feeling somewhat alone and isolated. Whats more I began to understand myself and began to initiate positive change and enjoy my life. Looking back I could say Steve possesses a set of personality traits that that makes him a great therapist and easy to connect with as well as a set of skills which make him effective in treating clients and helping them to understand and affect whatever is necessary for their own health and happiness.

Over the past 2.5 years, Steven has helped me navigate anxiety— from life's everyday stresses to deeply rooted recurring behaviors. His direct and clear approach has affected positive change, and sparked a
higher level of self realization. I always look forward to both individual and group sessions. The man has a gift for what he does.

I found Mr. Cope to be very genuine and sincere. He is insightful and engaged as a clinician, as well as, being a non- judgmental listener. I really felt like he "got" what I was saying. I look forward to going back for my next session and feel confident in recommending him as a provider. I have seen other clinicians in the past, and while I found them to be helpful, I do feel as if I have a better "fit" with Mr. Cope.
