Hello, I’m Matt, a Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow at Bryant West Psychology offering individual and couples therapy to adults and late teens, both online throughout New York State, and in person at our Midtown West offices. I am dedicated to inclusive work and welcome conversations related to sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, race, ethnicity, and religious identity. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, identity exploration, and difficulties related to health, injury, and illness. If your experiences and struggles do not fit under these neat labels, that's okay. I’m interested in understanding and helping you with the symptoms and challenges that come up for you, often hard to define, as you move through this world that has become increasingly complex and challenging to our humanity. In therapy, we will work together to strengthen your awareness and understanding of the thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns that shape your life. We will consider how these experiences impact you and what can be done to develop new ways of thinking, feeling and responding. My approach focuses on mindfulness, acceptance, and values exploration, drawing also from cognitive behavioral and relational traditions. Beyond specific techniques, the therapeutic relationship itself is key to healing. I am dedicated to showing up as present, direct, nonjudgmental, and open-minded. I find that therapy is most productive when we can speak openly and honestly each session, and I would encourage you to challenge yourself to do so. Everyone comes to therapy with different ideas about what it is, what it should be, who it is for, etc. For that reason, I aim to facilitate open conversations about expectations, frustrations, setbacks, and meaningful moments that occur along the way. Our work together will focus on addressing challenges to your mental wellbeing that can be changed, accepting and living with the challenges

What should a new client know about working with you?

Everyone comes to therapy with different ideas about what it is, what it should be, who it is for, etc. For that reason, I aim to facilitate open conversations about expectations, frustrations, setbacks, and meaningful moments that occur along the way. Our work together will focus on addressing challenges to your mental wellbeing that can be changed, accepting and living with the challenges that cannot, and connecting with what matters most to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In therapy, we will work together to strengthen your awareness and understanding of the thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns that shape your life. We will consider how these experiences impact you and what can be done to develop new ways of thinking, feeling and responding. My approach focuses on mindfulness, acceptance, and values exploration, drawing also from cognitive behavioral and relational traditions.
