About Dr. Alexander Shalman
My name is Dr. Alex Shalman, and I am a cosmetic dentist in New York City and New Jersey. I am also a fifth generation dentist. Since my great, great grandmother finished dental school in 1917 to become one of the first female dentists in Moscow, Russia, my family has been practicing dentistry for nearly 100 years. I am the first male dentist.
I am obsessed with aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry, and I specialize in designing beautiful, healthy smiles with innovative technology. My desire for knowledge and belief in constant and never-ending improvement has led me to meet and learn cutting edge dentistry from some of the most prominent dental professionals in the world. My involvement in the dental community includes teaching at my alma mater NYUCD, advising the NYU Aesthetics Society and Participating in the University Relations committee in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

It's hard to find medical practitioners one finds comforting, professional, and skilled all at the same time, and I would say that, in my experience at least, it's a little harder still with dentists. This dentist has all of the above. He and his hygienist work as a brilliant team, minimizing time spent, minimizing pain, and maximizing the information they have before going in with excellent technology at their disposal. I highly recommend this dentist and his whole team.

Dr Alex without a doubt is one the best orthodontist in NY! He only tells the honest and complete truth about what you need for your teeth. I broke a small piece of my tooth, zero pain, zero swelling. He will not give you anything you do not need! I would most definitely recommend him to anyone. His office is clean and very warming and the staff are so nice.

Dr Shalman was very patient in explaining the state of my wisdom tooth and why it was in pain. When I didn’t understand something, he used his camera tool to give me a visualization of my tooth. During my wisdom tooth extraction, he explained everything to me from beginning to end and made sure I was properly numbed. His office staff are super friendly and empathetic, and environment is super fun and creative. It was a great fun to be in his office!

Dr. Shalman was - hands down - the best dentist I've ever been to in my life. I got there early as I had an hour to kill and he welcomed me in, offered to hang up my coat, offered to make me an espresso, and his lobby was nicer than any cafe I've ever been to.
The manner in which his staff and he worked with me on my teeth and my worries and my priorities was second to none. I hope I get to go to Dr. Shalman for a long time in the future - he is simply the best dentist I've ever been to in my life. I was floored by his office and raved about it to my friends afterwards. Best medical experience I've had yet!

I've never enjoyed going to the dentist so much before. Dr. Shalman is very professional and does an amazing job making sure you know exactly what's going on with your teeth. The office staff is incredibly friendly and the office is cozy and beautiful. I like that they were very transparent with exactly what services I was getting. They also let me pick my music for the appointment, which was nice. I would absolutely recommend them to friends and family. :)

After moving to NY from Australia, this was my first time visiting a dentist in the U.S. and I'm so glad I found Dr. Shalman. I had my teeth carefully x-rayed and analyzed for cavities before a very thorough cleaning and fluoride treatment. Dr. Shalman went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and took the time to explain things throughout process. The space is small but has a fun, warm design that doesn't feel like your average dentist. I'm looking forward to going back.

I had such a great experience with Dr. Shalman and his staff. From the moment I walked in, I could feel their warmth and it put me right at ease. I really appreciated all of the little touches of the office like a cute little gift bag when leaving and the Nespresso machine. What I was most impressed by, however, was the transparency. While taking x-rays, they set it up so the images pop up in front of you and show you what percentage of your mouth has been completed. The doctor then walked me through each one of my slides. I had a lot of questions because I was so curious, and he took the time to answer every one of them. It made me feel like I was part of the process rather than on an assembly line of patients.

The office was super cute I loved all the decorations and the location is so convenient. Marina was SO nice and I appreciated how detailed and thorough she was about my insurance coverage. I walked out with no questions about finances which is rarely the case! Dr. Alex was direct, respectful and even asked what music I liked to play during my appointment! Already have 3 follow-ups scheduled. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't have availability during the work day and who likes a kind, young, thorough practice.

I get anxiety when I go to the dentist so I avoid going and I typically cry. Today was a breakthrough. Not only did I not have any major damage after 2 years of avoiding the dentist, I was comfortable. Everyone was so sweet, and Dr. Alexander made sure I wasn't in pain. I'm definitely coming back and I'm telling my friends. I didn't cry!!!
I was very early for my appointment. Someone was in front of me but I was seen before my actual appointment time.
Dr. Alexander was very nice and laughed at my corny joke about being grown. He made sure I wasn't in pain and communicated what was happening (which is important cause anxiety).
I already scheduled my next appointment. Very rare for me. I am a fan.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Alex and his staff! I was greeted by a wonderful office manager/secretary who showed me to the waiting room, where there was coffee, water and snacks. I was seen right away and Dr. Alex's assistant asked me what music I would like turned on during my appointment.
Dr. Alex was incredibly personable and was vocal the entire time throughout the appointment, letting me know exactly was going to happen next during the cleaning.
I will definitely be going back and recommending to colleagues and friends!

They were polite, the office was clean and nice, and I thought everything was great! But then I got a filling that now prevents me from flossing between 2 teeth, and when I paid, the receptionist told me I had paid the full amount. But then a month later I get a bill in the mail for more? with no explanation? I can find better dentists with competent receptionists. Very upset about this visit, will not be back.

I came to this doc because of their high reviews and they didn’t disappoint. Such a friendly and personable staff. I hate getting my teeth worked on and they genuinely made it an enjoyable experience. They were really upfront about pricing for everything and played the music I wanted to listen to while they worked. Absolutely go here if you’re looking for a great dentist experience.
