About Dr. Azhar Akber

Dentistry was very foreign to me when I was young. I did not go to see a dentist until I was 19 years old. I realized that there is a significant lack of knowledge on oral preventative care in my family and that people in my family and my community do not put emphasis on their oral health. With curiosity and determination to improve the oral health of mine and my family, I started volunteering and shadowing at a dental practice. Learning that dentistry is a combination of medicine, science, and art, and becoming a dentist offers me the ability to help others by relieving dental pain, restoring smiles and functions, improving oral health and confidence, and building lifelong relationships with patients, I decided that this is who I want to become. I went to University of California - San Francisco for my dental school and graduated in 2024. I then continued my training in general practice residency at the West Los Angeles VA medical center where I provided comprehensive dental care, including restoratives, endodontics, removables (dentures), and oral surgeries to veterans with complex medical histories. I have taken continuing education through Academy of General Dentistry and the Veterans Affairs Dental Services , and I plan to advance my knowledge and skills with more continuing education to be able to offer the best care for my patients. Outside of dentistry, I really enjoy playing and watching soccer. I also like travelling, exploring local and national parks, and hiking.
