About Dr. Benjamin Hsu
Dr. Benjamin W. Hsu, DMD, FICOI, is a dentist in the Upper West Side rated five stars well over 100 times. From his patients to his colleagues, he is recognized for his breadth of knowledge not only in clinical aspects but also in material science and the soft skills of dentistry. Dr. Hsu takes his education very seriously, having earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University. He studies the motivating factors, the barriers to care, how to better deliver empathy and compassion, and even how to inspire himself and his staff. Dr. Hsu hails from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Happily married since 2009, his wife is a medical doctor specializing in pulmonary critical care medicine. They live in the East Village with their Golden Retriever, Misu, an urban dog at heart. Truly, dentistry runs in his family, as his father has been a dentist for over thirty-five years. In fact, Dr. Hsu grew up with a dental office attached to the house he was born into. In his spare time, for relaxation and fun, Dr. Hsu often runs along the East River and participates in various indoor soccer leagues. He is an avid listener of podcasts including Radiolab, Invisibilia, Freakonomics, and This American Life.

Overall great experience, I fully trust Dr. Hsu. He is very gentle and walks you through everything from preventative things you can do to all the necessary procedures. I was in and out and the space is clean. Highly recommend.

They did not provide a head lamp to the dental hygienist and there is no overhead lighting. The dentist did not conduct an exam to check on my teeth after the cleaning. Therefore, it is unclear if I have cavities or not. They did not clean my nightguard until I asked them on the way out (they gave me this nightguard, and they are supposed to clean it each visit), despite me giving it to them at the beginning of the appointment. Last time I visited for a cleaning and exam, they broke my permanent retainer (bar) while cleaning my teeth.

For anyone with immense anxiety when going to the dentist, please see Dr. Hsu. I didn't feel a thing but he read my body language and checked in when I would tense up out of fear. There is also a tv on the ceiling to help ease my anxiety. It was super clean, and I was requested to sanitize when I entered and then went to a hand washing station before I sat down.

Loved it! I am a person who hates the dentist and frequently contemplates canceling appointments even if something is wrong. I’ve just left Dr. Hsu office, the staff at the front desk were wonderful, welcoming, and offered me something to drink as I filled out paperwork. Once I was taken back the dr came immediately to introduce himself, talked me through my xrays before my cleaning and discussed options before doing anything! Once I was comfortable he handed me a remote so I could select a Netflix show to watch during my cleaning which was on the ceiling!! Amazing!! I’ve only ever stared at light fixtures! The cleaning was quick and effective and he continued to ask me if I needed any breaks. At the end I felt really good about the appointment and have already scheduled a return visit! All my nerves were definitely calmed!
