I had a crown fall out on the Saturday afternoon right before everyone goes on Winter Holiday Break. I called the office and left a voicemail to see if they could help me with this dental emergency. Monday morning, bright and early, I received a phone call from Dr. Chhy Mao himself to find out my situation. He then found a time to fit me in to their last-day-before-closing-for-the-winter-break schedule. I was seen immediately at the appointed time and my crown was reattached in under 30 minutes. I’m so relieved. What a positive experience.

Today I saw a Dental
Hygienist for a periodic cleaning. She was thorough, gentle and communlicated clearly., I was very pleased with her care and high level of competence.. Every experience with Dr Chhy Mao and his staff i has been outstanding.. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly making a dental visit here very pleasurable.

Originally raised in Rhode Island, Dr. Mao graduated from Providence College with honors and a BS in biology. Next he attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA and attained a DMD degree. Dr. Mao decited to pursue an additional 3 years of training also at Tufts in the specialty of Prosthodontics. He graduated from my prosthodontic program with honors. Also received the Lloyd Miller Scholarship for outstanding Prosthodontic Resident. Dr. Mao became interested in the field of dentistry while working as a dental technician in high school. After graduation, he decided to relocate to the Bay Area.
Dr. Mao prides himself in furthering his knowledge in dentistry by pursuing various continuing education courses.

Dr Mao is too expensive for me, he is a specialist (and I want just a regular dentist--my old dentist retired and Dr Mao was his replacement) and I do not want to go downtown anymore, so I asked him for a recommendation for another dentist. He ignored my request and has not gotten back to me. I need another dentist. Any recommendations?

I have had really bad dentists and as a result, I'm really skittish at every dental appointment. I have experienced the best dental care from him, minimal pain, he always explains the procedures to me, and even follows up with me when I pull my disappearing acts. Remember, I'm skittish.
Dr. Mao has always been on time to our appointments, his dental hygienist is wonderful (so sorry to have forgotten her name), and Rebecca at the front desk is very welcoming and very helpful at navigating the manifesto of information that my insurance company makes me wade through. She just does it for me and tells me what is covered and what is not.

I have been seeing Dr. Mao for a couple of years and he is terrific. I used to go to the dentist that he bought the practice from--thought I'd try him out. I wouldn't think of changing. He is gentle, thorough, efficient and not an alarmist. He doesn't order a bunch of unnecessary tests and procedures. The office staff is competent and cheerful.

I had teeth cleaning and I was super happy how Nancy did her job. One of the best I have had and I will definitely recommend her to my friends and family.
But the time management from the reception stuff was horrible. The lady on front desk for some reason made me come an hour before the actual appointment (I am a new patient and doculent filling takes 15 min max, not an hour). she called and said that I could come later, but she never specified how much later. It turned out that it was an hour later. During the conversation she always said that she told me this and that, but she is always vague when she talk about time and details. I think she has some communication and planning issues. She needs to learn how to plan someones time since it's an important skill for her current work.

Dr. Mao is one of the most meticulous dentist I have used. Even
when I have been satisfied with the matching of three crowns to my tooth color, Dr. Mao rejected them because they were not perfect.

Dr. Mao is an excellent dentist. He is knowledgeable and friendly. His office staff is fantastic! Dr. Mao bought the practice from my previous dentist (of many, many years and whom I loved) a few years ago and I couldn't be happier. The transition has been seamless and my care has been outstanding.

I have always had excellent care at Dr. Mao's office. The staff is incredibly friendly, caring, and skilled. Each member of the staff - from the front desk to the hygienists to the assistant who works directly with Dr. Mao are all fantastic. Dr. Mao is patient and calm, and has a great bedside manner.

Nancy is awesome! I have been seeing her for a number of years, so she knows my dental habits (good and bad). She never lectures me about the bad (although times she probably should!), but "gently" advises me what I need to do to maintain optimal dental health. She has a great chair side manner and is very thorough. I have to honestly say she is the main reason I continue to come to this office.
