“Dr. Leonard is spectacular. I have extremely sensitive teeth and she, as well as all the staff, was able to keep it near painless for me.
The process was quick and easy, but done with such care and compassion from the whole team that it feels more like a spa day for your teeth than a dental appointment.
I forgot my dental hygienist's name, and I feel terrible for it, but considering it had been a decade since my last appointment, it was amazing how painless she kept the process.
Out of curiosity, I checked my heart rate from my watch for the whole appointment period. My heart rate stayed in the low 60s, only spiking to 75 bpm twice throughout the process.
I am extremely pleased with the entire crew of Italian Smiles, and will definitely continue to come here and will keep Dr. Leonard as my dentist. I highly recommend the office to anyone looking for a new dentist, as they are incredibly welcoming and talented. The office is very nice, with up-to-date equipment and well maintained. ”

About Dr. De'Shondra Leonard
For much of her life, Dr. De’Shondra Leonard grew up traveling the world with her family while her father served in the U.S. Army. However, she spent most of her adolescent years in New Orleans.
After graduation, Dr. Leonard set her eyes on pursuing a career in dentistry at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She graduated with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2012. The following year, in 2013, she completed an advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) residency program at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. For seven years, she was an associate doctor at practices in Houston, TX. Throughout her time in Houston, she treated babies as young as 6 months old and adults as old as 99.
Dr. Leonard’s passion for dentistry started around age 16 when she went to the orthodontist and got braces. The transformation in her self-esteem and confidence from that experience impacted her in a way that made her want to create that same lasting effect for others. Some of her best career experiences have been mission work in the Dominican Republic and Houston, where she was able to provide dental care in communities that did not have easy access to health care.
Although she enjoys all aspects of dentistry, endodontics (root canal therapy) is Dr. Leonard’s greatest passion. Helping her patients retain their natural teeth for many years, while also eradicating pain and infection, brings her joy that she cannot explain. It is her hope that when she meets you, you will leave feeling like a member of her family.
In her spare time, Dr. Leonard enjoys hanging out with her sorority sisters (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.), staying active, traveling to find the best beaches in the world, and rooting for her hometown football team, the New Orleans Saints.

I wasn't feeling well. Too much pressure was applied to feel better than I had been feeling. I was asked 4 times why I looked like I did, which was looking sick because I was sick. I feel better now that the tooth has been extracted by a different office.

The office is very nice and personable. The hygienist well prepared me to see Dr. Leonard. The pair of the hygienist and provider explained my treatment plan clearly and didn’t overwhelm me with the next steps. The office also makes sure to CONFIRM insurance coverage prior so i am educated and can plan accordingly. I am overall satisfied and i plan to make this my home dental office. I was gifted some pasta sauce by the office staff that is made by the family of Dr LaVant that i am eager to try.

Love this place and I don’t say that lightly. I hate going to the dentist period and I actually look forward with going next time for my deep cleaning. Communication is great and they made me feel comfortable asking questions and giving me so much information.

Everyone seemed extremely passionate about their duties. From the time I was greeted by the receptionist to having my charges explained by the office manager, literally everyone was knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly. Imagine how awesome a group of people have to be to make you enjoy a dental visit! You guys are the best!

Going to the dentist is not a pleasant activity for me. However Italian Smiles provides great service & the staff are very nice. My dentist Dr. Leonard, is a great dentist; she is soft spoken, effective, and a good communicator.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Leonard for my biannual dental cleaning. I came to the appointment with the intention of just getting a cleaning, but after getting x-ray pictures back, it was brought to my attention that part of my cavity filling from a year and some time ago had came out partially. Dr. Leonard made time for me to get that filling removed and restored in the same day! She was professional, caring, and prompt. Front staff were very welcoming from when I first walked in and I was given a tour of the whole office. The hygienist who took care of me is who made this a truly memorable experience for me. I can tell she genuinely loves what she does and is very passionate about every patient she receives. She gave me many tips on how to take care of my teeth and she pays incredible attention to detail. Such an amazing office 10/10, they make you feel like you’ve been coming there for years.
