Dr. Mata is excellent! She is professional, but also very warm and treats you like family. She is the most gentle dentist I've ever had and her work is superb! I went in for what others told me was going to be a very painful procedure, but with Dr. Mata, I didn't feel a thing (and no needles!). She takes a holistic view of dental health and stresses preventative treatment. She always takes the time after work is finished to talk and teach you about your teeth. I'm so glad I found her when I did.

Dr Mata was incredibly friendly and gave more insight on the condition of my teeth and gums than any other dentist I've visited before. I would not recommend this doctor. First time I came in, she was a bit too friendly and talked so much, just to have a 'look' to consult about my teeth and I was charged a visit for this.
Second time, I got exams from outdated equipment that was uncomfortable and painful to place in my mouth. She kept talking about how she wanted to fix my chipped from tooth but said before hand, she would need to clean the teeth in order to measure the gum lines since I had so much inflammation. Then, she'd have to do a deep clean of the whole mouth.
She kept talking about how she helped with TMJ and could help me with mine. She charged me the full amount for the exams without using my insurance because it was not yet approved and she would refund me the amount when the insurance pays for it. I thought this was weird, but I didn't have much experience and just needed work done on my teeth.
However, she did mention that one tooth in particular needed to be pulled and she would recommend a surgeon (which she never did) so I found one on my own because it was bothering me so much.
I got the tooth pulled that day, but here's why you should not go to her: the xrays they gave me were more updated and so they found I had a cyst from a left over tooth that was extracted many years ago. The 'inflammation' was from the cyst and the it also caused the major tmj.
She will also charge you full price, even though you have insurance.
it seemed like shady business and I do not recommend going to her at all.

First off, the actual office is a bit run-down and old. However, the location is very convenient to the Red Line and if you work in the Loop.
At the appointment, I had scheduled a teeth cleaning, but no cleaning took place. Dr. Mata started with an exam of my teeth, and she immediately started acting like I was in critical condition. She said my gums were in bad shape and would require an extra "deep cleaning" to fix (mostly not covered by insurance). Then she proceeded to tell me what was wrong with practically every single one of my teeth. She ended up saying I had 10+ cavities and needed sealants on several other teeth (All without viewing any x-rays). The appointment ended with me scheduling an appointment for a pricey "deep cleaning" (which I later canceled) and I never got the cleaning I had scheduled and expected.
I was very skeptical of her claims because I had been to the dentist regularly every 6 months my entire life and have never once been told I have had a cavity or any gum problems. However, not wanting to ignore the "critical" situation, I booked a cleaning/exam with a different Chicago dentist a week later to get a 2nd opinion. As I expected, the new dentist said my teeth and gums were in good shape.
At the end of the day, I'm not sure if Dr. Mata was just trying to up-sell me or she is just a little too over-zealous about "saving teeth." Either way, I don't plan on returning to this office.

I really loved the texpierence from the moment went through the door. Everyone was very nice and professional. This is the ideal way to treat patients. Dr Mata was knowledgable and explained each step in the process. My 97 year old mother was the reason we went in the first place. She was very kind and patient making my mom feel at ease with the process. Her staff are also very kind and made sure we were comfortable.

I've never been to a more thorough dentist in my life. I moved to Chicago a couple months ago and stumbled upon her. She took the time to do through every single tooth, gum, proper brushing and flossing technique (which i didn't realizing I was doing wrong my entire life). She truly cares about her patients so there aren't 20 people in the waiting room, it's a very intimate experience. I would highly recommend her if you want to make your dental health a priority!

I came in for a cleaning. She did not clean my teeth and all and refused when I asked her to.
Instead, she engaged in what I would consider the dental equivalent of a used car salesman hard sell. First, scare tactics telling everything that is wrong with me. Then trying to up-sell me to expensive procedure.
When all I asked for was a simple cleaning. Which I did not get.

This was the best dentist experience I have ever had. Dr. Mata takes her time with her patients, and is so informative. A previous dentist of mine told me I didn't have wisdom teeth (WRONG)! Dr. Mata carefully reviewed my x-rays with me, and explained to me in great detail what was going on in my mouth. I'm excited for my next appointment!

Dr. Mata isn't like other dentists. She sat down with me for an hour, and discussed her concerns about my dental health. At first, I was resistant - I kept thinking, 'I just want a cleaning'. But then, I realized that she was the first dentist that actually cared enough to sit down with me, explain her concerns and create a plan to move forward. Although I walked out without a cleaning (but with an appointment to get another), this was one of the best dentist experiences I've ever had.
