No way! He circled back to that tooth after the rest of the exam, treating my report of discomfort like an unsolved crime and eventually found a subtle crack in my filling.
He then popped in a mirror, took a picture, and showed it to me while we talked through what the most pragmatic next steps should be.
Because of his persistence, I'll be getting this fixed long before it turns into a crisis. A lot of service providers could learn a thing or two from Dr. Xu.”

Fluent in English, Spanish and Chinese, Dr. David Xu caters to the culturally diverse population of Santa Monica, California. He runs his own practice, where he performs various dental procedures such as fillings, root canal treatments, extractions, scaling, and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Xu has been in dental practice for more than 21 years. He earned his dental degree in China, and received his training at UCLA School of Dentistry, then got his license in California. He also holds active memberships in the American Dental Association and California Dental Association. With his experience and good manual dexterity, Dr. Xu always makes the dental service for his patients as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Xu offers nitrous oxide as a sedative to patients that may feel nervous about having dental work done, as well as different types of payment plans like Care Credit. He looks forward to providing great service and high-quality dental care to all patients.

The dentist was not throughout at all. It seemed like he didn't care about my teeth and especially, he did not care to explain to me what was going on with my teeth. He pointed out a problem and gave no solutions to fix it. He rushed me out the office and I left feeling confused and like I needed to find another dentist. I would not go here again.

Dr. Xu is incredible. Because of genetics and bad childhood habits, my teeth are high maintenance. Dr. Xu is always professional, empathetic, and informative. His prices are so reasonable that I've been able to pay for two crowns out of pocket. I am grateful for his services and am happy to say that I leave this office with more confidence and peace of mind.

\Fantastic dentist! and the assistants are very sweet. Dr Xu always ask if I'm okay. He's always asking about how I am, if something hurts--very attentive! His assistants are lovely as well. He made a root canal a nearly pleasant experience!

I searched very long and hard and found this doctor that takes my insurance.
Dr. Hongbo’s office is located in very interesting building...but I loved how they have free parkings right in front.
If you are looking for a very modern and fancy dentist office this is not for you...but if you are looking for a dentist who is very skillful and honest, he is the one.
My son broke his front tooth a month ago and they took him in right away...and he was able to glue the tiny tooth piece (1/16”inch?) back on his tooth and fill up the area we lost the pieces for. It was done so nicely nobody could tell my son had a broken tooth! It’s like an art!
Then, last night, my filling (or onlay) on my molar fell off and had to make an appointment and they squeezed me in at 10:30 this morning!
Dr. Hongbo was so patient and answered all my questions regarding pro and cons about onlay vs crown....and filling.
He didn’t pressure me to go with more expensive procedure at all. I ended up going with filling because that’s fully covered by my insurance.
I think they also answer phones at night time for emergency tooth issues.

I was a little skeptical, as I am with most doctors/dentists. But I was so so pleasantly surprised. I went in for a regular cleaning and I couldn't stop raving about it afterwards. It just felt so...fresh and so clean. Didn't hurt at all- enjoyed every minute of it! He was amazing, I will def be coming back every 6 months.

Let's start by saying i HATE going to the dentist. After leaving Dr. Xu's office, I am excited for my follow up and future appointments for the first time.....EVER! I needed a deep cleaning ive been avoiding for years. Through the entire hour long procedure he had so much patience and asked every few minutes if i felt any pain or needed any more anesthetic in case it wore off. Thank you to Dr. Xu and his amazing, friendly and professional staff!
