About Dr. Illya Tarasenko
Illya Tarasenko is a knowledgeable and thorough dentist specializing in oral surgery and cosmetic dentistry and serving patients in Brooklyn, NY. Services Dr. Tarasenko offers his patients include dental cleaning and consultations, fillings, root canals, teeth whitening, implants, dentures, gum surgery, tooth extractions, and crowns. Dr. Tarasenko graduated from Temple University and completed his residency in dental and oral surgery through The Brookdale Hospital. The office is very clean & bright. The receptionist & dental assistants were friendly & courteous.
The doctor was nice & took time explaining my xrays, a treatment plan & cosmetic upgrades available in office but didn’t push them on me.
My only reason for a 4 star instead of 5 is b/c I filled out all the forms on Zocdoc & was told I had to fill them out on their iPad again.
I would recommend Dr. Tarasenko.

I'm incredibly thankful for Dr. Tarasenko's professionalism, quick service, kind demeanor, and deft dental skills. My wisdom teeth were hurting terribly on a Friday night and I made a last-minute appointment with Gowanus Dental for the next day. The intake forms were all available online so when I got to the practice all I had to do was check in with the receptionist and wait to be seen. Both the nurse and Dr. Tarasenko were kind and efficient. My jaw was X-rayed promptly and the doctor removed my offending painful wisdom teeth in less than five minutes. He made sure to explain to me exactly what kinds of sensations I would be feeling during the procedure, and constantly reassured me as he performed the extraction. Other than the pinch of a few Novacaine injections, the procedure was totally painless. After removing the teeth, Dr. Tarasenko sat with me and chatted for about ten minutes to make sure I was feeling solid enough to leave on my own. When it came time to pay, I was given a discount for having two teeth taken out at once, which is appreciated since I do not have dental insurance. It's been a little under 24 hours and I am experiencing very little discomfort, which is surprising since I've previously heard horror stories about wisdom teeth removal recovery! All told, I can't recommend this practice enough. I am so happy that I could be seen and helped at such a late notice, and on a Saturday no less!

The hygienist and receptionist were great, but I was not happy with Dr. Tarasenko's bedside manner. He started telling me things about my mouth as soon as I walked in. This was annoying because I already knew all of what he was telling me - it just felt patronizing. If he had taken a minute to find out what conditions/treatments I was aware of already, the visit would have been fine.

I recently had another great visit with Dr Tarasenko. The storefront of the office is easy to miss, but inside this is a very clean office with very modern equipment. All staff is extremely nice, this is a very efficient and friendly practice. Will definitely continue to come here!

I can’t possibly recommend Dr. Tarasenko enough. He is hands down THE one dentist that’s given me the best overall experience—very professional, skilled dental work (I walked out of having wisdom tooth extractions like it was no big deal), extremely trustworthy and easy to talk to, never ever rips you off like most people in their profession, immaculately clean modern office space and equipment, and finally, his staff who are very chill and down to earth.
I guess it’s always refreshing to know that there are quality professionals like him who genuinely love doing their practice and are also in the business of cultivating a base of patients that are well taken care of.

I went in for minor tooth pain lingering after a filling was fixed months ago, and he tried to convince me to have my wisdom teeth out. I told him where the pain was, he poked at my gums until they bled (not in the spot where the pain is), and then told me the inflammation was because I needed my wisdom teeth removed. I have been to many, many dentists, none of which have ever recommended this. From other reviews, it seems like recommending wisdom teeth removal is common for this office. The exam itself was very harsh and painful. The office was very clean and nice new technology, though. And the staff was very nice.

The office is very clean and well kept. The receptionist greeted me as soon as I walked in and welcomed me as a new patient.
My appt with Dr. Tarasenko is very thorough and went quickly. The office had modern dentist equipment which I knew I was in good hands.

Dr Illya and his team were incredible. I came in to have a crown put back in and after X-rays (stand up was very cool and comfortable) advised that I needed a root canal. I sat down that day and left an hour later w no pain. I was back working that day and felt no discomfort at all. I went back for a follow up and he did the cleaning himself (with his amazing staff). Highly recommend Gowanus Dental to anyone in Brooklyn who wants a pro who gets it done.

My visit with Dr. Tarasenko went very well. When I arrived I was seen right away, and taken to the back by his assistant who was nice and welcoming. My x-rays were taken with the stand-up modern x-ray machine which I loved. The office was nice and clean with modern equipment. The doctor was nice and welcoming as well, putting me at ease right away. My procedure was done quickly, and I was on my way. The next day I was contacted by his office to make sure I was feeling okay. I will return to this office and recommend him to others.

Just had my first appointment with Dr Tarasenko today and I will definitely be back!
My appointment started right on time. He has a very relaxed and professional bedside manner, and works quickly but with precision. I went in for a cleaning (which he did himself) and he was also able to do some work to a filling during the same appointment so I wouldn't have to come back. He took time to explain what he was seeing on my x-rays and photographs, and also gave me some tips for ongoing care. What I really appreciated was that instead of charging me for new retainers (my old ones cracked), he suggested calling my previous dentist to see if they received extra retainers with the original order so I wouldn't have to pay more for new ones.
I walk by this location frequently, and the small office doesnt look like much from the outside. However, it is extremely clean with very modern equipment inside, so I was pleasantly surprised! His staff is very friendly and professional, as well. All-in-all it was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Dr Tarasenko.

Everyone here was so professional and polite. I really felt at ease and Dr.Tarasenko really made me feel like I was in good hands because I was. He told me exactly what I needed to have done with regards to a tooth I needed to have removed and he then went ahead and did it. I was done in about 5 minutes. I am really impressed and I look forward to my next visit. The office is also very clean with what seems to me like high tech equipment. I highly recommend Dr. Tarasenko!

The office was extremely modern, and comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful. It's just a few blocks from the subway at 4th Ave and 9th St which makes it super convenient. Dr. Tarasenko was very thorough, patient and took the time to explain all the procedures, options, and observations.
My favorite part was the standup X-ray machine that doesn't require you to put a giant film tray in your mouth, and the macro digital camera that he uses to show you what he sees in your mouth! Modern science is truly amazing!

Dr.Tarashenko is the only doctor who I've heard of that picks up his phone directly, has no hesitation reassuring you about any procedures or answering any questions.
My boyfriend who saw Dr.Tarasenko, has never experienced a more professional, educated and up to date dentist. His wisdom teeth needed to come out and Dr.Tarasenko made the entire process simple and efficient. Hope he continues to stay and practice in BK!
