Dr. Joe Eckford, Jr. is proud to serve the dental needs of Greater Houston. Going to the dentist can be a difficult experience, but Dr. Eckford works with his staff to ease patients’ fears and help them take charge of their oral health. Dr. Eckford uses cutting-edge technology to relieve his patients’ pain, restore their smiles, and boost their self-esteem.
Originally from Prentiss, Mississippi, Dr. Eckford always sustained an interest in medicine. After eight years of developing cellular communications networks for companies like AT&T and Sprint, Dr. Eckford wanted a change. He was inspired to pursue dentistry after shadowing his father-in-law and other dentists, and getting to see the impact they made on patients’ lives. Since then, Dr. Eckford has remained uniquely passionate about his field.
After attending the University of Iowa College of Dentistry for his degree in dental surgery, Dr. Eckford completed his residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. His dedication has earned him accolades from both peers and patients, including recognition as one of America’s Top Dentists in 2011 and 2012 and in Madison Who's Who for 2012 . He stays involved in the dental community through numerous professional national and local associations, including the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Texas Dental Association, the Greater Houston Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. In his spare time, Dr. Eckford likes to pursue his hobbies, which range from sports to spending time with his family and friends. He is also a proud member and community volunteer with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

I have extreme anxiety when going to the dentist. The office had a warm welcoming atmosphere. The doctor was very comfortable to talk to, He made me feel better about my dental state. My teeth were better than I thought. My dental visit made me want to do better at caring for my teeth. I have. I feel that should be the goal of dentist. Thank you to Dr Eckford and his staff.

The staff was very helpful. I received a phone call before my appointment to ensure I had the right insurance coverage. When I arrived I was greeted by my name. I was called in for x-rays that were very simple. The doctor came in, introduced himself, read the x-rays, came up with a treatment plan, and left me in the hands of the hygienist. I was very impressed with my teeth cleaning. She took her time and did a great job. My mouth felt so minty and fresh I didn't want to eat lunch. On the way out, we reviewed my treatment plan and coverage, and I scheduled for my next appointment.

I truly enjoyed my experience, here. From my entrance, to my exit. The staff is extremely polite, and genuine. And please, don’t get me started on the music because we were JAMMING in there. All in all, everyone was professional, knowledgeable and did an amazing job! This is definitely my primary dentist from here on out.

The doctor and staff were very friendly and pleasant. Initially, upon booking appointment, i specified that this was a new patient appt and also wanted my annual teeth cleaning. Unfortunately, although my xray was completed, i had to leave and return the following day for my teeth cleaning. It was frustrating and very inconvenient to do so. It would have been nice to be told prior to arrival that my annual cleaning wouldn't be performed all in one day to weigh my own personal options. Nonetheless, despite the disappointment with scheduling services, i was still pleased with staff's bedside manner and would still recommend. Hopefully, such issue could be prevented for others and myself in the future.

My experience with the Dentist was perfectly fine I have no complaints. But the person responsible for my review was the receptionist who made me feel at home. I scheduled my appointment last minute the night before and I was the first person in the office so I assumed all of my info probably hadn’t even made it to her desk yet. I knew there would need to be verification on my insurance which could take time , then there ended up being a hiccup on my insurances end that took even more time. She was so patient ,& knowledgeable, you can tell she was an intricate part of the day to day operations & knew her stuff, as a matter of fact she’s been doing this 38 years. She made me feel like I was sitting with my grandmother . She is the reason I am returning with no hesitation. I really do not like going to appointments because they can feel like such an invasion of personal space but she made me so comfortable I didn’t even think about it . She is why I’m returning!
