About Dr. John Matthes
I was born in Rhinebeck, New York into a large family of six boys and six girls, including myself. However, my parents decided to move our family to Northwest Indiana. I grew up in a small rural town. There everyone knew and cared for each other. This environment had a large impact on my decision to serve others. I chose dentistry because it allows me to continue serving others and I love to see people smile! I left Indiana to attend a pre-medical/pre-dental postbaccalaureate at the University of Pennsylvania. There, I concentrated on Organic & Cell Biology while also performing research at a local hospital. Finally, I returned to my beloved Empire State! I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery from New York University College of Dentistry with honors. In addition, I had the pleasure of serving as President of my dental class and NYU Student Body President. I performed my Residency at New York Hospital-Queens and took the initiative of leading the community outreach. I have presented research on digital restorative (CAD/CAM) dentistry to both the International Academy of Dental Research & the American Academy of Dental Research.

Best Dentist I’ve ever been to. I’ve had my fair sure of a going to bad dentist office and I’ve been scared and traumatized since. But going to see Dr. Matthes he calms you down and makes you feel super comfortable even if you are scared of going to see a dentist. I’ve been going here for a few years now and just got 2 wisdom teeth extracted loved how he made me feel at ease. I highly recommend this dentist as I will be seeing him every time.

Dr Matthes and his staff were all very pleasant and professional. Very knowledgeable and explained everything throughout the process. Great bedside manner...friendly staff. It's difficult to find a good dentist in NYC and this was my first time at his office for a standard cleaning/check up. He was very thorough and efficient. They handled my insurance quickly and made sure that they were only performing services that my insurance would cover. Definitely plan on sticking with him and would recommend others looking for a dentist to consider his office.

Dr. Matthes as well as his front and back staff were friendly. This was easily the most thorough dental exam I have ever had. He didn't rush and took time to explain everything as he went along in addition to reviewing better flossing and brushing techniques.
Downside: I was asked to come earlier so ended up waiting longer than expected.

John Matthes is a unique find in this City. He has Midwest values and it shows. And his staff are kind and professional.
He truly loves his work and when he says he goes home happier at the end of the day then he was at the start of the day, I believe him. He loves helping people who have dental problems. I tend to ask a lot of questions because I am curious by nature. John not only takes the time to answer my questions but does so in a manner that is cheerful and understandable.
A broken tooth emergency brought me to him and I now have two temporary crowns which will soon be replaced by permanent ones.
The care he takes in doing things RIGHT is so wonderful to experience in this day of instant gratification.
He combines the science of dentistry with the skill of an artist.
The quality of his temporary crowns is an example of this.
You will be treated like family.
And that's nice, especially when you're dealing with dental problems and anxiety.
