About Dr. Mahua Bose Pillai
Dr. Bose grew up in India and pursued her dream with a Master’s degree in Dental Surgery (MDS), after which she practiced as a consultant Endodontist in multiple private clinics. To further her dental career in the USA, she joined the DDS degree program at the University of California in San Francisco, where she was elected as the social chair for the DDS Class of 2016, and AGD secretary and class representative for ASDA. She has also been awarded the Nguyen T. Nguyen Scholarship for extraordinary achievement and excellence in Endodontics.
She followed her DDS degree from UCSF with the prestigious Masters in Medical Sciences (MMSc) program in Endodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Her clinical experiences include all phases of surgical and non-surgical endodontic therapy, such as pediatric trauma management with apexification and apexogenesis as well as re-treatment of posts, silver points, and separated instrument. Additionally, she has completed an externship at Children’s Hospital of Boston, where she received extensive training in endodontics for the pediatric patient. She also has had comprehensive training in microsurgery at the Harvard School of Dental Surgery and performs endodontic microsurgery routinely. She was awarded the Dentsply Sirona Resident award at the AAE 2019 in Montreal for her case presentation on Autotransplantation of teeth.
Dr. Bose stays au courant of technological advances in endodontics, including the latest techniques in instrumentation, use of a surgical operating microscope, digital radiography, and 3D imaging/ CBCT and is also certified to perform the Gentle Wave. Her treatment philosophy is to listen and take care of the patients’ needs as the first and foremost. She prioritizes a warm, welcoming environment followed by gentle, painless dentistry. Her patients leave with positive feelings towards root canal therapy.

I've had nightmares with dentists doing botched/not-through work in the past. This doctor is Harvard-educated and shares the process with you. I felt NO PAIN and the process was relatively quick. Appliances are the most modern technologies to ensure success. Doctor uses GentleWave device for root canals. The office could use some minor improvements. The a/c vent is right above the chair. it kept hitting me in the face, making it hard to breathe out my nose but maybe its just me. The only negative is there is no front receptionist. The doctor's assistant doubles as the front desk and calls Linda who is in the billing department to sort out payment/insurance. 4/5 doctor would come again.

Dr. Bose & Eunice were exceptionally competent & Caring. They worked together very well and exercised extreme skill in solving a complicated root canal procedure. They also demonstrated a great deal of patience in dealing with a time consuming process.

I think doctors should welcome reasonable Q’s, listen when you answer theirs, & ensure patients understand what’s going on.
I did NOT experience that here.
GOOD: I had worsening pain Sat/Sun, my dentist didn't know why, so I was thankful to get a Mon appt w/ a specialist. Linda even called to move my appt so we’d have time to do a root canal if necessary. I did have a RC & I’m fine now.
BAD:
- Bullying: Glad I kept asking “Is this necessary?” when they tried to bully me into expensive, not-covered-by-insurance technology.
- Poor communication: the doctor was condescending & rude. She acted as if I’d known I needed a RC & had been willfully putting it off.
- Infantilizing: the staff spoke to me like a child who’s scared of the dentist. They told my husband “oh, she was SO nervous!” No. They did a check to see how sensitive my tooth was & it was extremely/unexpectedly painful. I cried. Adults cry. Pain hurts. Doesn’t mean “she’s so scared about having a necessary/routine procedure.”

I was very nervous at first because it seemed likely that I would lost my tooth. It was a difficult procedure. In the end there were able to save it. In the process, they took great care of me. took all efforts to be sure I was comfortable & not in pain. They also kept me informed at all levels. I was in excellent hands.
