About Dr. May Ma
Dr. May grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and received her DMD from University of Nevada Las Vegas and trained at Flushing Hospital in Queens, NY for her residency.
Dr. May’s favorite part of dentistry is learning about the world through her patients. She strives to create the most comfortable environment for her patients. She is fluent in Cantonese and English, and her aim is to provide a personable dental experience whilst educating her patients about oral health. She is a member of the New York State Dental Association, American Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.
Outside of dentistry, she enjoys music, traveling, running, photography and spending time with her family and friends on both coasts.

My appointment with Dr. Ma was quick and easy. I was called in shortly after arriving to the office and was led in by the very friendly staff. Dr. Ma came in shortly after and began my exam. With so many dentist options in NYC, I felt lucky to have been assigned to Dr. Ma whose utmost attentiveness and understanding stood out over other dentist visits in the past. Procedures were clearly laid out before and during the process which felt calming. She'll not only listen to your detailed concerns but will also point out issues you hadn't considered in a professional yet friendly tone. Seek her out if you're looking for a dentist who prioritizes your or your kids' interests with transparency and care. The dental assistant and hygienist were awesome as well. They guided through the multiple x-rays and other preps with consideration and clarity which made the process easy. Even the steps after the treatments were smooth during which prescription arrangements, billing, scheduling were done smoothly. It was memorable to have gone through such a seamless experience where everyone helping you was friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend Dr. Ma to everyone.

Dr. Ma was super friendly and very good at breaking down the actionable steps I could take to ensure my teeth stayed healthy. I would highly recommend any patients nervous about the dental process visit Dr. Ma, as she has a very calming and patient bedside manner and made you feel like your needs were met!

I was seen by Dr. Ma because my dentist was unavailable and I had an emergency. I waited for 40 minutes to be seen and Dr. Ma said it was because she was reviewing my chart, but it was clear that wasn’t the case as she didn’t know that I had a history of tooth grinding. Additionally, it was clear that I was in an exorbitant amount of pain, yet my wincing and obvious reactions to the cold tests she performed were met by, “Ohhh, I see” and “I don’t really know why you’re having pain, I can’t give you an answer.” She also said, “we can try and remove a filling and see if that works and if it doesn’t maybe you might want to get a root canal.” Dr. Ma didn’t seem to know which way was up or down and I left in just as much pain as I came in with. I will be seeing my regular dentist next week, who is at this practice and who I respect and trust completely. This woman should not be allowed to work on anyone.

Dr. Ma was incredible. I have severe anxiety about going to the dentist and I was afraid to be scolded by a new dentist (as I have been in the past) but she was so comforting and COOL ! She genuinely never made me feel scared or uncomfortable. Super down to earth; she answered all of my questions and I never felt dumb or rushed. She didn’t try to sell procedures either. I have already recommended her to everyone I know. She spoke to me like she was my friend, & for that I appreciate her & this office so much. My dental anxiety is fully gone.

Second time seeing Dr. Ma and the staff at Astoria Modern Family Dental (AMFD). From check-in to being seen by the dentist the whole process is a breeze. The staff is very nice and Dr. Ma has the gentlest touch. She is the nicest Dentist I’ve ever had who genuinely cares for her patients. I hope she sticks around because I’ve never had a dentist I actually look forward to seeing. A+ service from Dr. Ma and the team at AMFD!

Dr. Ma is a truly professional and compassionate dentist who puts her patient's care at the forefront of her mind. I was having some issues that I felt could be serious and she saw me almost immediately to take a look. During the visit, I felt like she definitely cared about my well-being and concern rather than making a diagnosis and moving on to the next patient. The health of my teeth is a top priority and she is one dentist I can always count on to make sure any problems are found and quickly taken care of. I highlyh recommend her and I can wholeheartedly say she will always be the dentist I trust with my pearly whites!

I HATE going to the dentist, but I wanted to use my dental benefits before they expire. And I am so glad I did!!! I saw Dr Ma and she was super professional and explained everything so well! She informed me about a root canal and explained the procedure in terms I could understand which I had never experienced. Will definitely be recommending her to all my friends

I took my mom here, who was visiting from California. My mom only speaks Cantonese Chinese and she is now in her late 60s, so it was heartwarming to have a doctor who could communicate with her and take care of her.
Dr. Ma did a great job explaining everything to my mom and making professional recommendations on the health of her teeth. My mom said she did a very thorough cleaning for her. She is very understanding and asked my mom multiple times if she was doing ok during the cleaning.

Dr. May was fantastic! It was a pain free and informative experience with her. She answered all my questions with a lot of detail and reassurance. She mentioned she’s doing an implant fellowship at NYU and I hope when she finishes she will still be available for any future dental work I need. Thank you so much Dr.May!

What I like about Astoria Modern is that it is quick service for a cleaning. I didn't have to wait long. They're also very thorough with their cleaning.

I had a great experience visiting Dr. Ma and the staff at Astoria Modern Family Dental. I’ve always been nervous when visiting the dentist due to past experiences with previous dentists in other offices, but Dr. Ma put me right at ease. She has excellent bedside manner and a contagiously positive energy. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and isn’t there to upsell you. She also has a very gentle touch which is important for me because I’m sensitive, especially when it comes to my mouth. I will absolutely be returning to see Dr. Ma and the team at Astoria Modern Family Dental!

The dentist bedside manners needs to be worked on. I have big lips, and when she was doing my cleaning, she kept pulling it as if it was not attached to my body to the point that I had to hold it down myself.
I felt uncomfortable and my teeth didn’t feel clean when she was done, unfortunately I would not go back

I saw Dr. Ma for a simple exam and filling. I usually have dental anxiety but she welcomed me with such kindness and listened to what I had to say with full attentiveness. Her hands are a God’s send!
I didn’t even feel the injection and the filling ended up looking like a natural tooth...
Most importantly, I can tell she’s not unethical and means well for the patient. Something very rare nowadays!! I will be back and will recommend her to anyone!! 10/10 experiences thanks to Dr. May Ma!
